This isn't about any particular prompt, but rather about the growing trend in writing paragraphs-long, highly elaborate prompts.
I can't stand them. I just can't. They're so specific as to be stifling of writer creativity, some of them go over the 250 word limit, and I just don't have TIME to read a half dozen prompts a day of convoluted reasonings for why X needs Y to do Z to them..!

Maybe it is due to my lurker status, but I always viewed a prompt on a kink meme as a humble suggestion, an inspiration, not a thing that I demand to be filled or I hav to fill. WhenI make a prompt I just throw things out there and if they are filled: "Super awesome! If not: "Oh, well. Whatever."

I prompt expecting nothing. I'm thrilled if a prompt even just gets seconded. The prompts I fill are ones that are a suggestion of something that might happen that catches my imagination.
Many prompts I see here though are very exacting and read more like a person placing an special order, and then in a week when a very similar prompt with a few changed details is posted, it really seems like the person got impatient and is making another demand.

Hux has a really good shot but Kylo settles in his mind (?) and together they make an impossible shot? Or they are in each other's heads during a battle and it's super effective if disorienting for Hux at first?

Okay, I’ve just decided I’m damn good at filtering content, because I’ve managed to stumble over, at most, a couple of fluffy Kylux works. I do feel your pain though: with a pairing like them I’m here for the dark and messed up, not the fluffy.
However, this may not be an ATG (any two guys) phenomenon. It could be precisely the incongruity between genocidal general of the First Order and pink & fluffy that’s drawing this kind of comparison. Perhaps it’s surrealism expression or Dadaist anti-art. Perhaps it’s the transgressive overlay of darkness and sugary-fluff, designed to stir something visceral and unpleasant in the hearts of the audience. Does it make you flinch uneasily? Does the image linger, seared into your mind and bones, even after a brief exposure? Maybe that’s the point.
Then again, I write rather than produce visual art, so this isn’t strictly my area.

Do any other fillers here struggle with how subtle to make certain parts of a fic? Like, on one hand the famous "show don't tell"-style subtly is broadly good - it gives the readers some credit, after all. But on the other hand, the readers aren't in my head and haven't been obsessively reading and writing this story for weeks. Maybe I'm too close to it?? I mean my beta's amazing, but they're still reading it a lot more carefully than any reader is going to and they also know what to expect from my style by now. Thoughts?
Doesn't your beta do a general readability read first, to spot sections where it's confusing or it drags? Every beta I've had did.

We're almost to the six-month "anniversary" of the debut of TFA. Do you feel that the tone and genre of TFA fanfic has changed significantly since the first month or two in which the fandom was active?
I feel that it has, a bit, in the Kylux part of fandom (which is basically the only part I reside in). I think that after it started out as a pretty small niche thing, the migratory slash fandom got its hands on it and this resulted in a lot of AUs that, if you changed the names of the characters, could have been any slashy original fic because it had nothing at all to do with the characters in question.
I feel that it has gone down again a bit, probably because the MSF moved on to Civil War and the new X-Men movie.

I think I know one you're talking about, but not sure... If I'm not mistaken, there was one a few pages ago, though I'm pretty sure it's incomplete. Can't find it at the moment, but it involved Phasma working in a brothel, right?
The parallels between the First Order and actual Nazis are pretty obvious. And arguments can be made for the Skywalker clan being Space Jews. But is it possible to make a prompt that combines those two things, via a present day AU, without being labeled persona non grata?

As a Jewish fanfic writer (small niche), I think it would really depend on the execution and your ambitions. I wouldn't, for example, actually try to write a Star Wars AU that sets the Skywalkers in the middle of Germany in 1938, or that takes place in the concentration camps. Even if done well, I think the overwhelming sentiment might be that Star Wars AU fanfiction can't really support the weight of something that heavy, as a genre.
However, there are a lot of different ways to incorporate those ideas without going directly to the most immediately tragic or overdone scenarios. I'm certainly interested to see what your idea is.

Is there any First Order officer who isn't a white human? The stormtroopers are not officers, they're abductees brainwashed to be expendable killing machines so they don't count for this question.
We only have a single ship with just about no information on its officer personnel to go by, so it's not really possible to give a proper statement about this.

Music is important to me. It is a motivation. It's also a way to help me find peace. And sometimes, after listening to some songs after TFA, I've found myself thinking about how songs match up with the movie, certain scenes, character(s) or just the mood of the music matches up to the right moments.

"Control" by Halsey is a song that gets attached to Kylo Ren quite a lot for the angst/mental illness perspective. I've found that David Bowie's "Quicksand" reminds me of everything I enjoy about the idea of his inner struggle.

So: when talking about a penis, you could call it either a penis, a dick, or a cock. Anything beyond that could sound awkward, but in terms of usage, penis is clinical, dick is (vulgar) slang, cock is usually sexual. Easy enough.

I'm guessing vagina is clinical, cunt is the vulgar bit, but I can't think of anything to seriously fill the sexual usage. "Pussy" gets too close to vulgar slang usage again, from what I have seen.

Reylo art to be a part of the Star Wars Celebration exhibition, approved by a group of Lucasfilm employees, made by an actual Lucasfilm artist Erik Maell (not just licensed as haters will try to claim). Since Reylo is oddly absent in this kinkmeme.

When I was a teenager I named "shipping" the warm and fuzzy feeling of me appreciating seeing two characters being sweet/caring towards each other. I always defined it as something unpredictable. It was like the magic wands in Harry Potter lore - you can't choose what to ship, it's the ships that choosee you, in a sense. Recently I tried to put some sense on why I shipped the pairings I shipped. I can see some patterns, and if someone told me the summary of a movie, I could probably tell you what I am or am not going to ship, but it's never going to be set in stone until I actually experience the content.
Now to my point - I thought it was like that for everyone, but sometimes I see messages on communities, blogs, that are like "This is why I always ship the canon ships" or "why do you ship this when you can ship this other thing?" or even "I used to ship this and that, but the fanwork for this is better than the fanwork for that so now, I only ship this." This completely baffles me. I understand fanwork making you see two characters in a new light so you end up shipping them, I understand shipping only fanon versions of characters, I understand falling out of love with a pairing. But this idea of consciously being able to choose what you ship seem very strange to me. I understand choosing to engage in active fandom behavior about your ship - or choosing not to. But for me, it's impossible for anyone to choose what they ship.

It's definitely a struck-by-lightning deal for me. I can be influenced by good fanwork, though. I rarely ship anyone in the SW universe (except SkySolo 4ever), but the "Sith Academy" series made me ship Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. It's never a conscious decision, but if someone can show me chemistry I like between two characters in a fanwork I'm more likely to start shipping it.
I'll be back after the next movie. All the prompts now are just repeats of prior prompts.

I'm one of those migratory fandom folks - I have one or two rock solid fandoms, but mostly wander from one to the next every three months or so (TFA is an outlier at six+ months, but is not a "core" fandom to me). It seems to mostly depend on how active the fandom is, either on tumblr or other fandom-heavy social networks, or in how much quality fic it produces. I'm a voracious reader (100,000+ word fics only take me two or three days to read, and I go through several dozen smaller fics each day), so if the content isn't there... Well, I have to move on to find more stuff to consume.
It's actually annoying some days. I don't stop LIKING the fandom, and I'll return if there's a spike in content, but feeding this habit with a new fandom every few months is a hassle. Sometimes there just isn't an active fandom that meets my needs, so I end up digging through dead fandoms until something new pops up.
If this sounds like it might qualify as addiction, well, it probably does... I've paid money for content, and would likely suck dick for a longfic (nobody has ever offered me the chance, so who knows) if the Internet weren't so willing to give it to me for free.
So, yeah, I lose interest in a fandom the moment it stops feeding my need for constant content. At least it's free.
It's actually annoying some days. I don't stop LIKING the fandom, and I'll return if there's a spike in content, but feeding this habit with a new fandom every few months is a hassle. Sometimes there just isn't an active fandom that meets my needs, so I end up digging through dead fandoms until something new pops up.
If this sounds like it might qualify as addiction, well, it probably does... I've paid money for content, and would likely suck dick for a longfic (nobody has ever offered me the chance, so who knows) if the Internet weren't so willing to give it to me for free.
So, yeah, I lose interest in a fandom the moment it stops feeding my need for constant content. At least it's free.
