Nothing good comes without the bad, but this kinkmeme has just the worst people out front and center. Any kinkmemes where this has died down? The SPN one had a small flare up recently, and I'm just trying to get away from the rampant blah coming out of this one.

No particular fandom in mind, just want to be around some non-wanky people for a while... Maybe I'll even be introduced to a nicer fandom to hang around for awhile.

If only people took half the energy they used in the discussion thread and put it towards fills/leaving nice comments on fills. Imagine what that world would be like lol.

But seriously, have others noticed a sharp decrease in lack of comments on fills? There's been a few times where I'm one of maybe three people total who have commented. I would say the meme was winding down, but the prompts keep coming in, and the discussion is always going.

For me, there's been more fills on kinks or pairings I don't have interest in reading lately. Leaving a comment for the sake of it on something I didn't read seems disingenuous.

alternatively, I see it has been ok to ask here, if one has lost a certain fic, they knew they had read.

but I would love to follow a community where fen ask about existiing fics all the time (as in contrast to the prompt posts), which they have lost. or cannot remember where having read that story.

Like a community for all SW verses, OT, prequel, TFA, novels, comics, you name it, one is allowed to ask there.

I doubt it, now that LJ is dead. The format doesn't work so well on Tumblr because of the inability to comment as easily.

I am working on something similar (already mentioned in the past), but I would love some recs too if there is any out there! I love the idea of Knights of Ren Finn and Rey, with them being unable to find Luke and instead falling under Snoke's control and slipping into the Dark Side.

What are your biggest hurdles as a writer? Do you struggle with motivation, plot, dialogue, description, editing, criticism, etc.? I'm just curious. Personally, I struggle with self-motivation and writing purposeful dialogue.

Motivation, especially sudden and complete loss of interest mid way through writing a story. I have four WIPs that died that way and they still haunt me :/

If anyone has tips for maintaining or regaining interest in a story, I wouldn't mind hearing them...

On logged in posting

I remember a while back people complaining about logged in posters because they were "doing it for attention" but didn't it occur to them that people stay logged in on kink memes so they know when somebody responds to their prompts or fills? I still get responses from fics on kink memes I posted in 2011, and sometimes kink memes benefit from people who come back to them after a long time because they get an email saying somebody wants more.

Extremely old prompts also get fills after four years, and when it's all on anon and nobody's watching out, nobody notices anymore.

Also I've made some amazing friends from way back who I recognized in later fandoms because we both stayed logged in on kink memes.

If it was ever about attention, then why doesn't everybody just log in all the time?

Because it's not about attention. It's about keeping track of prompts and fills even when life gets busy and you forget to check back, and getting updates even years down the line.

Obviously that won't happen here, with all the anon wank piling on logged in users causing the mandatory anon rule.

So on that note, anybody know a TFA or Star Wars kink meme with less wank?

Sometimes I can't tell if fills are meant to be jokes in response to a prompt, intended crack, or if the author meant for it to be serious and I have no idea how to leave a comment on those fills.

Ha, I was just thinking something similar. Mostly about how some prompts get a crack!fic as a response and how it's probably not what the author was looking for.

If you can't tell if it's supposed to be serious or funny, just leave a generic comment like "Nice!" or "This was wonderful!"

SOUNDTRACK/CHARACTER THEME QUESTION

I'm trying to isolate character themes and am having trouble. Rey's theme is easy, it has it's own track, but I can't seem to pick out Finn's or Poe's (if he got one) or even Kylo's. Can anyone with a better ear for music and access to the soundtrack give a track and timestamp for where to listen for everyone else's character themes?

I've been writing a lot of smut lately and I feel like it's getting repetitive/dull so I'm searching for good smut fics/scenes to read for inspiration. What are some of the best smut scenes you've ever read, regardless of fandom? What makes your favorite smut scenes your favorite?

Ah, I’ve given this question a lot of consideration (mostly as someone who also seeks to write better smut). So here's a bunch of stuff on writing smut, rather than specific recs. I hope this vaguely conincides with what you're after.

For me personally, I have this kind of weird meta-kink, where I don’t care what the characters are doing so long as they are really, really into it. It’s hot when characters are strongly affected by the sex, regardless of how it plays out.

Also having an idea of what a character is getting out of a kink (or even plain sex) is useful. Is it about control? Is it about trust and/or vulnerability? Is anyone kinking on the danger? Is it a straightforward sensual pleasure thing? It's easier to set up a goal/achievement arc using these questions and that can be quite cathartic, narratively.

Similarly, to me the anatomy and logistics are less important than the minor details used to convey arousal. What characters are doing with their junk is less interesting to me than character A’s stuttering breath, or involuntary noise or racing pulse. Or the way those things hit character B such that they shiver or need to wet their suddenly dry lips. I mean, these are trite examples, but hopefully they get my point across.

Finally, the tone of the sex matters too, I think. Is it sweet and happy such that the characters are tripping each other into bed and laughing? Is it rough and adversarial with more teeth and snarling and smirking? Somewhere in between? Are the characters nervous or confident?

Anyway, this is the most I've ever written on the topic of smut (and I'm very glad to be doing so anon). I don't know if this helps at all, and I'm really curious about others' opinions on this matter.

finding character voice

I really like Phasma, but I don't like it when she's written sounding like Data. She doesn't have much dialogue, but she doesn't sound like that.

I'm trying to find a unique voice for my Phasma right now; the story I'm working on is really Phasma-centric, and there's a lot I want to say with Phasma that I'm puzzling out. I'm really fond of characters who code-switch, and I have a good idea of what Phasma sounds like when she's kicking ass but I'm still trying to pin down who she is when she's at home, so to speak.

What's your process for character voice?

With tfa this is tricky, but repeated viewing/consumption of the source material. You reach a point where you can hear the characters speak in your head.

For a character like Phasma, who doesn't have a ton of screen time, I would look to other sources of inspiration. Perhaps the Clone Wars series, which featuresa lot of clone trooper interaction and culture that you could build on. A lot of people are revisiting Timothy Zahns Thrawn trilogy for inspiration and references to use when writing First Order characters.

Phasma might be rather easy to work with since she doesn't have much screen time- as lkng as you work within the framework we have for the First Order, you could characterize her however you like.

Sometimes I see prompts I may be able to do, but then is afraid of my poor writing quality, or the tone veering off too much from OP's intent.

Then I just end up doing self-fills. Can't offend myself anymore than I already do right?

I've done a couple self fills. Sometimes it helps to just put the idea out there, if someone else runs with it that is wonderful and a treat but no harm in filling your own prompt IMO.
