okay someone explain pink-haired hux

Okay, this is more about tumblr than the kinkmeme, but since this is anonymous and tumblr is not, I thought I'd rant here where I wouldn't get inevitable weird blowback.

I get that people are just having fun, but honest to god, I don't understand how you could look at General Hux, youngest general in the first order, a hateful sociopath, and decide that he needs pink hair, pink balloons and milkshakes. I don't see how you get from point A to point B in the slightest. There are a lot of stupid, fluffy Kylux headcanons that I don't mind. But this is the one that will kill me.

This is the one that makes me feel like people that think everyone that ships Kylux only does it for the white guys is right, because apparently enough people aren't interested in the characters at all for this to be a thing.

Okay, I’ve just decided I’m damn good at filtering content, because I’ve managed to stumble over, at most, a couple of fluffy Kylux works. I do feel your pain though: with a pairing like them I’m here for the dark and messed up, not the fluffy.

However, this may not be an ATG (any two guys) phenomenon. It could be precisely the incongruity between genocidal general of the First Order and pink & fluffy that’s drawing this kind of comparison. Perhaps it’s surrealism expression or Dadaist anti-art. Perhaps it’s the transgressive overlay of darkness and sugary-fluff, designed to stir something visceral and unpleasant in the hearts of the audience. Does it make you flinch uneasily? Does the image linger, seared into your mind and bones, even after a brief exposure? Maybe that’s the point.

Then again, I write rather than produce visual art, so this isn’t strictly my area.

Just like this anon said, it's the contrast between canon Hux, genocidal (presumed) sociopath General of the First Order, and the floofy milkshake bar barista that is Pink Haired Hux. Holding your favorite character up to a funhouse mirror via speculative au (in this case, what would a Hux who rejected FO propaganda act like?) is a great way to fully appreciate their canon incarnation.

And then sometimes... Sometimes you just want to see Vader riding a unicorn.

I thought it was about time for you to show up again.

The answer, like the answer to any question of why fans do things, is BECAUSE THEY WANT TO. It doesn't need to be canon-compliant, have any basis in the movie or reality, they JUST WANT TO DO IT THAT WAY BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY THEY WANT TO DO IT. No one needs to justify their fannish impulses to you or anyone else. You don't like it, SCROLL.

NAYRT: Shh, it's okay nonnie, don't let the haters get to you. They just don't appreciate the joy of fanfiction AUs. More for us.

It's the tiresome shaming attempts that annoy me. We are fandom. We have no shame.

Maybe kink shaming is their kink? Maybe they can't get it up or get wet without piling hate and misery onto strangers on the Internet~?

You're right, actually. Everyone who doesn't appreciate the characters in exactly the same way that you do and for the same reasons is just pretending to like them because they just can't get enough white guy cock.

Mirrorverse!characters are fairly popular these days. Particularly those at extremes of good vs evil. Particularly bad guys.

The bad guy in my fandom has had a fan-created mirror counterpart for years, complete with pinkness, sparkles and fluff, and whenever it crops up on my dash, I scroll on by. I'm not a huge fan of AUs, and what draws me to fandoms is the characters, so changing their personality doesn't appeal to me personally, but I think I get why others like it, and even if I didn't, it doesn't matter. People are allowed to enjoy things that you don't enjoy.

oh my god, mirrorverse. i don't think i've actually come across that in an active fandom since people turned the little russian guy from 'star trek' into a mutineer and a murderer. trippy shit, but as above-non says, it ain't my fucking place to complain/change/argue about someone else's interpretation of a character.

This is the one that makes me feel like people that think everyone that ships Kylux only does it for the white guys is right

I am not speaking for everyone, but I am an Asian Woman raised and born in a white country (not USA).
since this is anon, I have no problems to admit, I do prefer white men both in real life and in fanfiction over any other ethnics and races, including my own one.
I am sorry though, if it offends you so much.
the only advice i can give is, just as others alraedy said, you could skip this kylux fandom, and look for the ones, where the characters are interesting and all from colour (chinese dramas? indian bollywood movies and television shows? south american telenovelas? I heard those countries have an film output larger than USA), so that this issue will not come up?
