A bit, but there's a surprising amount of fic between the companion characters too. IIRC, people just tended to specify what class/gender they wanted and a decent number of fics just used to preset names for the characters - so Marian Hawke for DA2, etc.
You definitely have to hunt around for characterization you like, but I've found a lot of high quality fics in the fandom, so hunting around was worth it.
DA 2 is my least favorite actually. The first will alway have my heart (Claudia Black & Steve Valentine <33) & the 3rd one is just pretty to look at. The 2nd game underwhelmed me. It felt cramped somehow.
In terms of gameplay, I like DA2 the least, but I enjoy the companion interaction more than DA:O (though Alistair and Morrigan are my favorite part of DA:O)
Yeah I will say the interactions & implied interactions (Fenris & Isabella--though really, both of you should have higher standards) are improved in DA2. Varric's nicknames for everyone are adorable.
The overall story is weak though. It's too stretched out if that makes sense.
I definitely agree. I usually get bored by the third act as soon as I've done the quest to reinstate the romance.
Though, even while I liked the one overarching plot in DA:O, some of the individual quests went on way too long. So grateful for the Skip the Fade mod.
I give the first game a bit more leeway because it was new. The second one was weird...they took away a lot of what made the first one good & mucked with the story.
They were paired off because if you didn't flirt with our romance either of them, they got together with each other. They even get a Villa together after the game ends. So it's not like it popped up out of nowhere.
I haven't played DA:I yet, but I assume it's like Fenris and Isabela if you didn't romance either of them in DA2. I like when the companions do their own thing if you don't romance them.
Did they really? Whenever I play I always romance one of them, so I never knew this. That's so cute. And it fits in with my OT3 pairing of Female!Hawke/Fenris/Isabela.
