I've done a couple self fills. Sometimes it helps to just put the idea out there, if someone else runs with it that is wonderful and a treat but no harm in filling your own prompt IMO.
I did one self-fill and filled for other people and thankfully got some nice feedback, even if it's just two or three comments I appreciate people went out of their way to do it.
If you are worried about the OP, don't be. I've had only one of my prompts filled and to be fair I also prompt for rare pairs so I don't really expect much and it was something short, but beautiful and on point. And even if it hadn't been, I would have still been thankful my idea was enough to inspire someone to write something. And I'm sure other OPs feel the same way.
If you are still too afraid, find something in the old posts, it is very unlikely the OP will care you divert too much by then if they are even keeping track.
Yeah I find OPs are pretty great about fills. Like regardless of whether I mini-fill or end up making something longer and more involved, OPs have been consistently kind when they get fills. Granted, once or twice an earlier-round fill goes unacknowledged by OP, but that's a little sad rather than anything actively nasty and just a thing that happens on kinkmemes.
It does suck. I still keep an eye out for my round 2 and 3 prompts (I think I only left like two or three). But I think a lot of people end up forgetting at some point or just give up hope. This meme is new, but I remember in some old ones OPs would sometimes show up months later on a fill and thanked the writer having found the fill after all that time.
And sometimes it's the other way around, I recently found one of my own fills in an old meme that took me forever to realize it was something I had wrote.
I'm the opposite -- I mostly only fill. There's something liberating about the anonymity of kinkmemes and I love the challenge of hitting all the points the OP requested. Also, using other people's prompts helps me get over writing hurdles and work on my weaknesses: they provide most of the idea, I focus on the writing part, instead of getting stuck in the brainstorming phase.
On the other hand, I've never started a discussions because I have a strange sort of social anxiety (same reason why I bring myself to start a tumblr) and I've never prompted coz I horde my ideas jealously, even though I know, realistically, I'll probably never write all of them.
How many people post no fills/self fills

Then I just end up doing self-fills. Can't offend myself anymore than I already do right?
