How do you all distinguish between the two?

So I finally decide to step into tumblr and see what's happening, and literally the first thing I come across is a rant about how Finn can't be a medic because it reminds people of the 'black people are always caregivers' trope, and how that's problematic.

A thread here saying she's Asian has finally brought this to a head for me. I can't hide it anymore. I've seen the movie several times and do not recall anyone named Jessica. There was a female X-wing pilot I noticed, but all the prompts and backstory stuff here about Jessica makes me think I was having microsleeps and missed every second of this richly developed and nuanced female Resistance pilot, who until now, I didn't even know was Asian.

I feel like it's the Emperor's new clothes in reverse. Everyone can see Jessica and her amazing storyline in the movie and all I see are background characters. It's like a really elaborate joke. Or Where's Waldo?

What am I missing when I see the movie? Is this character mostly fanon or novel-based? I've been going nuts from this for a month now, and I don't care if it does make me sound like a blind misogynist asshole, someone please tell me where Jessica is in the movie. I promise to pay better attention!

How big was the Resistance fleet? They said they lost half of the fleet? How many got shot down? Anyone counted? I don't remember a large fleet shown.

And where were the New Republic fleets? Where they all in the Hosnian system? Why put all your fleet in one place? Is the New Republic significantly smaller?

How is the First Order funding all their shit? How big of a territory do they have? How come no one noticed them building a project that big? Was the First Order really competent at hiding? The Resistance recon team that good at sucking? If First Order was competent, how did they not set up better planetary defense systems? Short on money? Short on staff? If they were short on staff how long did it take for them to build a base that big?

Are there many more higher military commanders above Hux? Will we not see Ginger space nazi removed by Kylo Ren, Snoke, Resistance, a trip and fall, but through a military court martial?

How crippled are both sides now?

Does Snoke have mad cash and make it rain for the First Order boys?

Is anyone working on an anti-deathstar shielding program?

Do the novels explain?

Also most of the on screen Resistance deaths were of non-humans. What, other species can't drive or something? Speciest I say!!!

I was assuming Knights of Ren was a dark group like the Sith, and instead of Darth whatever, it was whatever Ren. It doesn't seem like a common interpretation though so I'm confused.

I've seen a lot of comments here and on tumblr about people shipping, or not shipping, certain things because of whether the ship is "right" - that is, whether is represents the most progressive possible combination of characters in a healthy relationship. While I'm glad people are thinking about such things, I think that people are creating a feeling of obligation where there doesn't need to be one.

You can write about two dudes gettin' it on without making one's canon female love interest dead, unappealing, or evil. You can write about two people in an unhealthy relationship without treating that relationship as something to aspire to. It's good to be aware of what you're portraying and how, but that doesn't mean any ships are off-limits; it doesn't mean that any ships are "right."

You do you, you lovely people! And if you doin' you means you write some assholes hate-fucking while wounded and at high risk of hypothermia, it's okay! If you're really worried, you can include a "do not try this at home" disclaimer. Ship freely! ♥

When writing a multi-chapter/section fill, how do you best convey that information on the Fills Post? (A single post with additional threaded comments each time you post an update, separate 'new chapter' update posts every time, wait until the whole thing is done and then post it, etc.)

i actually wanted to discuss serious stuff (like how messed up i am for shipping kylux, and how i can identify with both eg one killing his father, and the other being mass murderer, but i am currently somewhat ill, so no seriousness today..)
so off to the core of why disney snatched SW, very likely not for the love of the force, but for the billions of EURO, Dollar, Yen, Yuan, and whatever currency, they are making, and are going to make :D

so far, i have not really been on a shopping tree, just TFA toothbrushes, and folders (yep, the real hardcopy kind of, where i can put my favorite kylux fics, that i printed, inside).

I've been prompting on kink memes and doing fills for three years. This is the only meme where I've ever had anyone fill one of my prompts and I just want to thank all of you for, while being a bit wanky at times, still being a group that actually fills a relatively good quota of prompts while also supporting the ones you haven't filled yourself. I can always cheer myself up by browsing through this kink meme.

i have been out of the loop for over half a decade now, but something that was really standing out from me browsing the TFA ao3 stories, no matter which pairing:
those stories with the pairing:
any movie character/self insert or reader (of either gender or undefined).

is this something specific of SW:TFA?
did it came from another fandom? where did it starts?

its just curiosity, I am not reading those kind of fics, because my sole focus is on the fictional characters, I am not interested in inserting my self into the stories.
but i would like to know, the origin of this trend!

(I think , with the other trend, the ace /asexual characters, I guess it must came from the new BBC sherlock fandom, though i wouldnt swear an oath on it)

So regarding the conversation above about self-inserts/readers, I was wondering how many ace and/or aro people are into reading that genre.

I ask because I’m ace and have no interest in reading “me”/character porn, though I enjoy character/character porn, if it hits the right buttons for long-winded kink-based reasons.

Does this match up with anyone else’s experiences? Is this the complete opposite of anyone’s experiences?

I sometimes wonder if some fillers troll their own fills to get more attention, by getting people jumping to their defense and giving them positive comments to make up for the mean troll. When there's less than an hour between posting and wanking at a time when the meme is usually very slow, it just seems suspect.

I don't like having this kind of thought. Tell me I'm wrong please?

Like, okay, I don't actually have time to write that fic (much as I'd like to). But that hasn't stopped me thinking about it, and I'm curious what sort of things other people would do with the idea.

Personally, I'm kind of indecisive, haha. Ended up going with drastically compressing the age range of (and aging down) the main six, so they're all at Hogwarts together for a few years. Hufflepuff Rey, Slytherin Finn and Kylo, Gryffindor Poe, Hux and Phasma not yet sorted. (And who am I forgetting beyond them? Jessika Pava, and... who else?)

Then for the staff, there's Luke as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor (maybe who ran off to some far corner of the world for a while and just returned?), Chewie as the Transfiguration professor who spends half his time in his Animagus form (a bear), and after that I'm lost, lol. I'd like at least Leia and Han there as well. (Slytherin Han, Hufflepuff Luke, Ravenclaw Leia, undecided Chewie)

So? How do you like to do your HP crossovers and/or how would you add on to mine?

I am new to this, and i find a lot of those abrevations, which each time I have to look up, what their meaning is, such as DA (different anon), and lots of others.
