OP - Haha, I know, I know. But when I thought about it at length...

I'm not seeing him as a Gryffindor. Not that Gryffindors never run away, but he was really prepared to do just that before all hell once again broke loose. (Though if he's anything other than Slytherin, I'd say Gryffindor would almost have to be it.)

Then there's the whole "totally willing to help blow up everyone he's ever known" thing re: Starkiller Base, which as far as I'm concerned disqualifies him from Hufflepuff by way of loyalty if nothing else.

And, idk, Ravenclaw? I guess he could be Ravenclaw. Nothing really for or against that one.

But none of his actions (or almost-actions) contradict Slytherin philosophy. Not to mention that he does an awful lot of lying (yeah sure you're a big shot in the Resistance, dude) or leaving out details (sanitation worker) in order to get closer to whatever his goal at the time happened to be. (Half-lying to Leia's face does strike me as rather "use any means to achieve [his] ends".)

Also like, mind, I'm a Slytherin myself, so I don't think badly of them of there was any worry about that!

I am 100% with you on this one: I've thought about it at length, and I think that Finn is the sweetest, kindest Slytherin who just wants himself and the small group of people that he cares about to be okay. He's very strategic in order to achieve those goals, too, as OP mentioned.

(My partner is a Slytherin, so this 100% does not come from any anti-Slytherin sentiment. I <3 my sweetheart Slytherin Finn who technically fits the bill characterization-wise but doesn't in any way fit the House stereotype, which confuses his heart.)

I've always seen Finn as a Slytherin too. I think people tend to for this AUs just see Slytherin as the house where we put the bad guys so they're shocked when a good guy could easily end in that house.
