thanks for brining the correct older term up! i think the term i was familiar with was really original female character.
never been in fandom or messageboards, so i wouldnt remember them how they were or what was there. not reading lots at fanfiction net as well (well, though, i have been there, if the source material didnt ever gain much followship at LJ, dw or ao3. been looking there for criminal minds fics :D)
