I would be polite if someone filled one of my non-AU prompts with a modern AU, but I would be privately disappointed, just like if someone had thrown in an unrequested kink that I found squicky.

SA. If they didn't ask whether it was OK first, that is. I wouldn't say yes to a modern AU and then be disappointed about it.

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/04/05/star-wars-force-awakens-jj-abrams-kylo-ren-ashes

Asked for an example, Abrams pointed to the scene in Starkiller Base where Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren is interrogating Daisy Ridley’s Rey and finally takes off his mask. The moment where he puts his mask down into that table of ash was meant for an early sequence.

“The backstory is, that that table has the ashes of the enemies he’s killed,” Abrams says. “That moment was actually shot for, and meant to be used in, the scene where he was talking to the Vader mask.”

In other words, that table of ash was originally in Ren’s private quarters. And the fact that he incinerates and preserves the remains of his foes adds a new, eerie dimension to his Dark Side nostalgia — and hoarding tendencies.

Suddenly I regret all the jokes I have made about him.....THAT IS FUCKED UP.

Or they do care deeply but don't want to discourage any fillers, even ones that do fills vastly different than the prompt without checking the op is okay with the alterations and respond with a neutral 'thanks for filling' response.

This.

Yeah but you can't deny that the Ren-Rey scene that launched a million fics isn't creepy/squicky as hell

-first person PoV unless the canon is first person
-when there is a canon het pairing or one-sided pining & writers shit on the female character (I like em gay too but c'mon)

Ugh YESSS. To all!

Especially the first one. It gets to the point where I am writing a fic and worried that ppl will give me shit for writing Mitaka as, y'know, a member of a fascist military regime.

I get where you are coming from but some prompts are really outlandish for an in-universe setting so I can see why a filler would just opt for a modern AU.

Somehow "hoarding tendencies" just made me lol

DA

Some prompts are even more vague -- just a quote or a set-up. No pairings, no details, nothing the prompter would like to see.

With those, I also auto-assume literally anything will do.

That assumption is what got me to be specific w my prompts (without writing a damnable essay)

I do this with fills that are disappointing, then I reword the prompt and prompt it again in the following post.

Some people find that sort of thing hot.

Re: Unpopular opinion maybe.

I'd auto assume they want something in the existing universe unless the prompt directly counters that, and in that case I'd at least ask before filling with whatever.

I'm sure they do. It's why 50 shades of abuse sold so well.

OP: I hate all character hate, unless the character is hated in the show. I really hate 2nd person. 1st person I can go either way, but 2nd person pisses me off on a deep level. It feels so impersonal? I guess. IDK, I just never got the appeal and I hate when a summary is really good but they don't tag 2nd person so I get excited and blah, second person porn.

Well, if you're not looking for TFA specifically, there's a couple very nice, LONG fic series. Ouroboros by bedlamsbard is Padmé/Obi-Wan/Anakin and 456k words. Re-Entry + Re-Entry: Journey of the Whills are together well over a million words and counting; the primary ship is Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, but there's a LOT of other ships, mostly untagged.

When a (good) character is suddenly made to act like a jerk for no real reason. It's happened to me a couple of times. I didn't expect to see it here, but while reading what until that point had been a great story it did and it just ruined the story for me. And now it's happening with another one on AO3.

AO3 bitching

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Soooo I've been actually writing fics for the first time and posting to AO3, and... is there some secret queue algorithm to how they're displayed? I swear to god I see the same posts on the top of the page for over a full day, while newer and updated posts are scrolled down the page as normal.

Sorry if this is not the right place for this but it's aggravating if people are deliberately making small updates to their fic to keep it on top. IDK!

Re: AO3 bitching

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
People are messing around with the date function on their fics to keep them at the top. I've seen it in several fandoms, and it really pisses me off.

Re: AO3 bitching

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not always done on purpose. There is an AO3 issue where, due to timezone differences, you can post a fic and have it appear below an earlier fic. But if you post something that ends up at the top and then five minutes later, Massive Unfinished WIP is back in first place? Or if it's there all day every day? They're changing the post date, and those fuckers are the worst.

My proposed wanky response: every time they hangs the date to bump their fic to the top, leave them another copy of the exact same uniquely worded comment. Or, if you're feeling creative, act like you're stuck in a Groundhog Day scenario in the comments section of their fic.
