Just a heads-up for likeminded people, there's a thread on Reddit right now about "how did you quit your job in a blaze of glory?" (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/41dkav/redditors_who_quit_their_jobs_in_a_blaze_of_glory/), and I feel like a LOT of these stories would make great prompts for Finn-centric or Finn/Poe modern AUs.

(quote from the thread: "So you didn't just fuck over your boss, you fucked over your boss by helping someone in need! That's the best way to fuck someone over!")

Yeah... during the freeze I thought of a bunch of prompts that I was excited to post, but then realized that the same thing happened to literally everyone. So I'mma hold off on prompting until the writers' block lifts and I can actually fill some things.

Baby!Ben Solo - creepy kid stories

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I just came across a reddit about little children telling creepy stories.
Like "Daddy, remember that time we died?".
In the novels Leia says that Snoke was after Ben since he was a child, I bet little Ben told some of these kind of stories...

I agree with you re: wondering who end up being so insistent on the top/bottom dynamic.

I think some of it is youth, some of it is being straight and having bought into hetero-patriarchial norms, and some of it is not having had sex.

Like, my standards for sex scenes went waaaaay up once I started having sex. I also found I appreciated non penetrative sex scenes way more because I was aware of how intimate those things could be. And that you can have that intimacy without PinV or PinA sex.

I became more aware of the heteronormativity in fic through a lot of self education about queer issues because a number of my friends identify that way, and I didn't want to be that person, you know? I didn't want to just say ignorant things that made them uncomfortable. So if you don't know any queer people IRL, like, there's this weird fetishization of queer relationships that doesn't mirror what they're like in real life.

Like prioritizing penetration above all else is very erasing to ladies who only date ladies, (presuming both ladies are cis, but even if there is a trans lady in the relationship there's no guarantee she's going to be into penetrating her partner, you know?)

And that knowledge acquisition and the self awareness of my own heterosexual biases came with age, and experience.

Obviously not everyone is going to have the same experiences, but I found myself shifting away from the clearly delineated top/bottom and over prioritization of penetrative sex because I grew up, was aware of my subjective biases, and started having sex instead of just reading about it.

On a related note, have you also found so so so many a/o/b fic are like subtly (or not subtly) misogynistic in the way omega's are portrayed, as well as heteronormative with no idea of what consent actually looks like?

I don't want to kink shame, it's not the idea of the a/o/b dynamics I don't like per se. It's just how most fic like that are executed.

I'm just so glad my math was good! Seriously, I pulled this together on a post-it at work one day while fuming over everyone was writing their age difference like Kylo was 19 and Hux was 40.

Re: Swearing etc in the Star Wars universe

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It might just be droids that use "Maker", but I've always been rather fond of it as a Star Wars "god" substitute. It's a good generic fantasy/sci fic generic substitute, if not.

Beta readers?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Would anyone be interested in starting a beta list? (With the mod's blessing of course)

I was thinking maybe there'd be a separate post where folks could ask for a beta & someone answer w their email?

IDK. I know kink memes are very casual but if I ever finish any of my fills, I'd appreciate a beta at least.

I'm a huge fan of darkfics, but this one has always stood out to me far above the rest since I first read it. Most fics that take a good-hearted and make 'em dark turn them into hammy, scenery-chewing villains eager to wreak havoc, but this one managed to stick with the character's canon characterization AND make him dark and DAMN I love it for that.

I prefer novel-length fics, but I am a very fast reader, so...

I'd be very interested. I'm interested in becoming a beta, but don't know where to start, and I need a beta for my own stuff because I always miss more of my own mistakes than other peoples + am not familiar with much of the SW canon.

I do think a lot of it is ignorance. I only really noticed it once I started dating women and people would wonder or ask me "who's the top?" which is insulting in so many ways. No one ever wonders about that when I'm dating a man because it's assumed that my gender makes me the more submissive partner. Or, no one asks about my sex life when I'm with a man but if I'm dating a woman it's all "how does sex work?", as if their curiosity gives them the right to ask such personal questions.

There's definitely a fetishization of queer relationships. I love that fandom explores different sexualities and genders, but a lot of the time it comes off as fetishizing or trying to prove a point.

Also, yes, my standards for sex in fics went way up once I started having sex. I tend to skim over most sex scenes in longer, plotty fics and I ignore any fics that call out bottom!characterA entirely.

Regarding a/b/o, yes, I have noticed that. Even when the trope is subverted, there's still a lot of that misogyny and heteronormativity there. But what bothers me the most with that trope is the focus on pregnancy and how important it is and how people who give life are treasured and sought after. As someone who is infertile, the few fics I read where "betas" are sort of thrown off to the side or considered unimportant because they can't get pregnant were like a knife to the gut. Infertility is rarely discussed in society and infertile people are already looked at as biologically broken or wrong, so seeing that in fandom, mostly written unintentionally, was infuriating and heartbreaking.

I don't want to kink shame a/b/o users, but there's definitely some internalized issues in the trope and the way people write it, and I think a good deal comes from not recognizing their own biases or ignorance.

I read at about 700 wpm for work/study stuff, but for fun-reading I prefer to take my time and just roll in the story. :)

I think it is only one person and that they have a life outside of the kinkmeme, too. Trying to mod a large anon group that moves really quick is hard even for a team.

PROMOTE A PROMPT

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Since there may be a prompt freeze coming up soon, which prompts are you really really hoping for a fill on? These can be your prompts or anyone's prompts, in any prompting post. Drop your links here.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt

I feel really bad for the mod here. A meme this size needs about 3 mods, each in different timezones to keep things in check, and to cover for other mods when RL things come up. This solo + RL crisis + wankstorm scenario is a mod's worst nightmare.

(They may have already had loads of comments, but they're being screened, so I don't know.)

Me too! Somewhere I think I still have an embarrassing semi-official release comic novelisation from after New Hope that had Luke/Leia becoming canon.

No one asked how quickly you read.

Re: fic length

(Anonymous) 2016-01-18 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
No one asked the airt either? I was just saying I read fic slower than my regular reading speed because I want to enjoy it rather than finish it as fast as possible. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Anonymous) 2016-01-18 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
This is really helpful, thank you!

Oh man. That's terrible. Yeah, the fertility fetish in a/o/b is really like - in need of some self awareness and self criticism. It sucks that fandom has made that a hurtful thing.

I can think of maybe two fic that I can remember that tried to address it, and neither did it well. :/

RE: Asking who's the top in women dating women relationships, have you seen Mae Martin's bit on it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-2KKHOXnY4

She has a thing about when people ask who's the man in the relationship. She also has a funny song about her love of Harry Potter fanfic. (That bit starts like two or three minutes in. I'm not sure when her bit on people asking about relationships happens, it's been a while since I watched the thing the whole way through).

She also follows it with a funny critiques of how people write femmeslash.

There are so many! Right now, at this second, it's the "Poe worships Wedge" prompt because I'm reading Rogue Squadron and I really want to see Wedge in the Force Awakens timeline, and this crush makes perfect sense to me. Plus I'm all about the bonus with Luke/Wedge.

http://tfa-kink.dreamwidth.org/1082.html?thread=358458#cmt358458

And okay, maybe I'm really hoping to read this one about Rey and Luke ("Luke is a stern teacher but submissive").

Authors, I bow down to you.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-18 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I just want to commend everyone who writes fiction and responds to prompts because I haven't shared my writing in years and I'm currently trying to organize my thoughts into something readable and enjoyable in response to a prompt (I haven't commented on it yet because I don't want to get any hopes up) and I swear it's like trying to herd cats. In short, I'm in awe of you writers out there! It's hard to push past your inner critic.

I want this Finn-centric one so, so, so badly. I've tried writing it myself a few times but I just can't make anything work out like I want it to, so now I'm going to resort to begging others to make it happen. Please please please please.
