Re: what is the special meaning behind those myspaceAUs?
(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)thank you.
it helped a bit.
I think, you are referring to a very specific story, while I thought, I saw more than just one fic/Wip ,that had the myspace mentioned.
I thought, the recent influx of Gore tags in the stories was somehow separated from the myspace.
Though to be honest, I still don't understand the connection of myspace and the gore tag (just one example, the other would be, why has the clothing and the 2000's aesthetic has to do with myspace?).
Rape and noncon are my kinks, but blood and gore and surgeries are not, so I can think, I can stay clear of those stories :D
each to our own.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)MySpace was 2000s so it's contemporary clothing and esthetic.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)Okay, here's the "official" description that started the AU, which all those wips are based on:
If you want to check out that post, which is full of cool pictures, here's the link:
http://kyloren-generalhux-trash.tumblr.com/post/142299058673/horatiosroom-im-callin-this-the-myspace-au
horatiosroom:
i’m callin this the myspace au lmao
kylo is a shitty lil scene boy who spends most of his time taking selfies and photoshopping them beyond recognition, seeking as much attention as he can get
hux is a sociopathic cyberbully who needs to chill the fuck out and leave poor kylo alone (even though he ends up being the one kylo wants the attention from most)
the rivalry starts when hux gets more popular than kylo on myspace because of how “dark” and “edgy” and “mysterious” he is lol
tl;dr hux is an ass, kylo has braces and listens to blood on the dance floor, and at some point they manage to ~fall in love~

Re: what is the special meaning behind those myspaceAUs?
(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)AYRT: Whatever you've read into my choice of words, I genuinely enjoy this AU, and didn't actually intend any negativity. Ren really does have a strange style of dress (as described by Horatiosroom, and common for that period of time), and Hux really does seem to have some form of mental illness (one of the original people even wrote Hux having a dissociative episode with overwhelmingly invasive thoughts), so yeah. It's not all on me, here.
I am asexual and get super disappointed when a fic abandons all characterization and plot, and slowly devolves into nothing but sex... So I feel your pain, OP.
I am not asexual and I get super disappointed when that happens too, but not as disappointed as I get when people act like asexuality is somehow linked to caring more about characterization and plot.
I find the longer the fill, the harder it is to stay completely on topic and not accidentally squick the OP.
Personally when I prompt, I am just happy to get any fill at all. And if there is anything happening I didn't specifically say no to in the prompt, well the story is the writer's ultimately. I just get less enthused in my replies.

AYRT - Please do not try and tell me about my own situation, or how it impacts my enjoyment of things. Thats a super shitty thing to do.
If you don't like the fill just go write a new prompt or write the very specific scenario you imagined yourself. Negative comments aren't going to do anything since this is on anon. The author can't edit it. And even in places where they could, (like more formal fic exchanges) that's still bad ettiqutte.
You are not the writers employer. They are not obliged to make it perfect for you. If they took your vague prompt someplace that wasn't specifically what you wanted then you have to deal with that. And if you asked for a single kink you can expect other sexual acts to be added because multiple acts go into a sex scene. As an author I'm not going to check in with a list of acts that will occur (kissing, then hugging, then biting, then blowjobs, then rimming, then spanking, then anal) to get approved by op. If I like a prompt I write whatever comes to mind for it then.
Tl;dr if someone whined that they didn't like my prompt fill because it wasn't exactly as they imagined, or it included a sex act that there prompt didn't specifically say not to include, but that they didn't like, I would do my best never to fill a prompt for that person again. Ditto if they did that to someone else's fill. That's just incredibly rude.

I certainly hope you're not inflicting rimming on people who don't ask for it. Yuck.
Holy reading comprehension Batman. It was pretty obvious that this was about stuff like surprise mpreg, xeno, tentacles, a/b/o, scat etc. - so things that are definitely a huge matter of taste and preference and just throwing them in there without checking with the prompter just sucks. If you want to write some cutesy buttbabies so badly even though it's not asked for in the prompt, do your own prompt and self-fill and don't derail a perfectly good prompt. (This is an example, obviously.)
It's very obviously not about vanilla sex acts.
And no, just throwing in weird kinks that are not specified in the prompt, THAT is bad ettiquette.

Rimming is pretty standard and vanilla though?
I think so, but I can see why some people might not be comfortable with it.
Prompts from round one and two.
(And to the OPs still keeping track. )

This. A kink meme ain't a gift exchange. It's a prompt, as in something that should inspire a story, not a blueprint that has to be followed. I think it's rude as a filler to go somewhere that was specifically excluded in the prompt, but other than that it's open season. Also as a filler I've never had an OP actually reply to me when I asked about something. There are thousands of prompts, someone who wants to write a fill chooses yours because they liked it, not because they exist to serve your every whim.
Do you prefer to post your fills as comments only, first as comments and then archived somewhere else, or do you post directly somewhere else (ao3, etc) and link to that in the thread and fills post? And why?
I posted something to the ao3 directly because I happened to already have a sockpuppet account set up, and now I'm wondering if I'm not getting any comments because people can kudos instead. I mean, it could just be that the story is about a weird kink but I think I kicked ass at writing that weird kink so how else am I supposed to find the readers that want to read it?

Nobody said anything about ~serving OP's every whim~. But as a filler, I have almost always gotten replies when asking about a detail or two so wow, it's almost as if your nor my experience with this is a universal fact.
It's a simple courtesy to ask a prompt OP when you want to include potentially questionable material and if you don't get an answer: If in doubt, leave it out. Same as with derailing comments on a prompt, a derailing fill goes against kinkmeme etiquette (while most kinkmemes allow for prompting stuff inspired by other prompts, so that's a great option if you feel inspired by a prompt but want to change it in major ways).

As both a filler and a reader, I prefer to post as comments and on AO3.
I think your best bet for getting the most readers/recognition would be to initially post the fic as onto the meme, then once any comments have died down, upload it to AO3 and post the link to the thread too.

Above anon is right for this being the best way to maximise comment-based attention.
As for what I do with my fills and why, well I post here as a comment always and sometimes cross-post to AO3 later. I don't always cross-post fills for a few reasons.
Namely, a fill I'm proud of that exactly fits a prompt doesn't always feel to me like it "stands alone" as a story in its own right. It would need to add more background that I can't be arsed filling in. My mini-fills are especially susceptible to this feeling. Also crack fills. Additionally, sometimes I tweak characterisation to fit a prompt and I kind of want to keep some consistency on my AO3 account.
I'm also less likely to cross-post straight up PWPs unless its a rare pair, and even then... But I usually will if someone specifically asks, even if I wasn't initially going to.
If I continue with a fill, especially beyond the bounds of the prompt, I will always cross-post. That's because the few times I've felt the inclination, OP has been silent on the matter of whether they'd be comfortable with me posting under their prompt when I've asked. So.

idk if yall have heard this but ive read this on multiple sources now: tom hardy (!!!!!) gets a cameo in episode eight in which he, as a stormtrooper, recognizes finn and thinks hes still loyal to the first order by being a spy in the resistance. so he just walks up to finn and smacks his butt and is like "YOOOO"
tbh this whole cameo sounds like a fever dream but i guess itd kinda be like daniel craig's stormtrooper cameo. thoughts?

Pretty much. Also it's unfair to think that OPs are constantly checking in every second of the day to see if fillers have questions. I try to check my prompts every here and there and sometimes I have only seen a comment a couple of days after. If you are unsure if the Op will be uncomfortable if their fluff prompt suddenly becomes all about xeno tentacle sex and mpreg, just create your own prompt or don't include it all.
Yeah you are not the OPs servant, but if you are just going to derail and ignore the OPs feelings and do whatever you want regardless, then just write it as your own fanfiction and not a fill to someone else's prompt. That's equally rude in my opinion.
Maybe I'm just old school, but this feels like common decency, there is a reason why most of these more extreme kinks tend to usually come with warnings. They are not for everyone.

I tend to do both. I'm not a native speaker so while I edit my fills before I post, I always end up missing a couple of things here and there and editing on AO3 is simply easier. Plus it is easier to get feedback, not everyone is a commenter but anyone can leave kudos if they enjoy it.
