Soooo I've been actually writing fics for the first time and posting to AO3, and... is there some secret queue algorithm to how they're displayed? I swear to god I see the same posts on the top of the page for over a full day, while newer and updated posts are scrolled down the page as normal.

Sorry if this is not the right place for this but it's aggravating if people are deliberately making small updates to their fic to keep it on top. IDK!

Is anyone having issues with AO3.

I tried to de-anon something, the work showed up fine at first. Then it disappeared and showed up as a draft, so I posted it and now it disappeared completely. I tried to repost it thinking it might have been an issue from my side, it said it posted, but again it never showed up under "works" for me or in the tag.

I HAVE LOST THE CAPACITY TO EVEN BEGIN TO EVEN.

I can call in sick tomorrow and watch it and all the extras several times over Y/Y?

How do you get past feeling like everything you write is crap?

At the moment I hate every word that I write. When I force myself to post a story, I still think it's shit even if/when I get positive feedback.

I think it has something to do with the fact that all I'm capable of writing atm is romcom fluff. I wish I could write something Dramatic and Serious like my amazing beta partner but my WIP is stalled (probably in part bc of this self-doubt). I need to get over this somehow.

tl;dr: Looking for suggestions on how to get past "my writing sux."

I know we've had slow days in the past. But I think we've gotten about 10 comments in like a day. No +1s or anything. Even updates and fills have gone ignored.

I have been randomly dropping in to read the comments at this discussion /off topic post again, and I saw that someone was complaining that the fill/feedback comments have droppped.
I admit, I have stopped actively participating at the kink-meme, not because of wank or any related topics / seriouos discussions such as race or rape culture or similar, but simply because, in the beginning (lets say January /February) I was here more active, for reading the fills, and leaving prompts and trying to comment on fills as much as possible.
now after 4 month of SW TFA fandom, there is simply so much daily updates at ao3, that I am kinda using up all my free time reading there, leaving kudos or feedback. Thats all my time permits during a full normal 9-10 hrs workday.
is there any one else here, having gone through the same transformation? means shifting the focus from the kink meme to ao3?
(sure, being here is fun, but for me, its too much to be able timewise to follow, as in contrast to ao3 where I can handle 10-15 updates per day or so.)
I am not one of those old school LJ'ers of the last decade who are sitting around and mourning the death of LJ activity, nor am I ranting against tumblr. I think, tumblr is a fantastic ressource for fandom art and artists, I have several blogs there even subscribed via RSS feeds, but together they have like over a 500 to 1000 feed entries in a week? not looking at the feed for 1 week, and the update counter went over the top basically. (and I am still not sure, how tumblr works in terms of giving kudos or feedback, so instead of saying to the artists directly, your drawing is gorgeous, I am reblogging , and leave the comment to that art? sort of?) and about 99% of all authors in SWTFA have their tumblr account in the notes, saying, come there and squee with me. or talk to me there. And I am wondering, in this tumblr age, would it be ok to ask the respective artist, can I have your email address, so that I could squee the old fashioned way with you via email? like no pinstagram, instagram, tumbrl, livejournal, ao3 comments, dreamwith or anything? just very very yahoo groups decade like, with email? is it nowaways strange to ask for a fellow fen's email address? is it too intrusive and strange? weird? stalkerish? I admit, I am out of the loop regarding fandom etiquette, and maybe I am overthinking stuff, but in my opinion, it would be more weird to not mulling about it.
For instance, if I read a great story PWP on ao3, and I was all but drooling about that pornish piece, to suddenly being completely thrown off the track, because the author uses "Penis" (which for me is a term out of the sex ed 101 biology book rather than for porn , slash or het) instead of "cock":
is it something worth telling the author? especially in some public space such as the comment space on ao3? I want to be encouraging , and not making authors angry, or worse, insecure about their writing abilities. Especially in an fandom like SW TFA; where every second story seems to start out apologetic for shipping or writing Ray/Kylo fic or Hux/Kylo fic, or whatever. Poe/Kylo. Hux/Poe. Finn/Hux. Mitaka/Finn. I swear I have never seen a fandom where the artists and authors apologize so much for their preferences of pairing (no matter whether its non-con, or romcom).

ok, that went totally overboard , and I simply wanted to explain, why I don't feel like the kink meme is slowing down, even if I am not here much, and therefore cannot be objective.

better go back to ao3, reading and leaving kudos there. Its seems to be the safest course of action.

I am kind off switching between can't wait for it to finally coming to theaters soon, and dreading the movie, because so many authors I like in SW TFA have been previously written for Avengers.

and I am feeling afraid and torn myself, I love being here, and don't want to be swayed away from TFA, but gosh, even only the trailers released about civil war are enough to make me temporarily forget about stormpilots and kylux...I know its silly, and there is space for all kinds of fandoms, its just...Avengers is huge. Its like the fandom thats going to eat all other fandoms??

How are you feeling?
I mean, I felt no threat with Batman vs Superman, because..that movie was..mediocre? I liked the inclusion of Wonderwoman, but otherwise, the whole plot was illogical in huge parts, and coming out of theaters, I knew, well, that one isn't going at least, in terms of fanbase here.
(though I saw a few fics appearing at ao3, but nothing that would indicate a huge fanbase, maybe it was more geared towards fanboys, then fangirls, but still).

I want to use this art for a dirty wrong bad Rey/Luke prompt where he keeps finding ways to rub off against Rey during training and is horrified and ashamed of himself for it but still desperately turned on, and Rey knows and likes it but plays completely innocent and oblivious because she can sense he gets off harder than he ever has because of the shame.

to make a long story short, me and my roommates watched tfa, and my one friend who grew up as a military brat mentioned that it was odd poe was designated as a commander. "not that he's not cool, but that's a naval rank. like, boats and shit, not aircraft related."
now im hoping you guys could help clear this up. is the resistance orgainized as a ground force or an air force, or even more out there, are they technically a navy? they've got a canon admiral and a canon commander-are their ships and fleets designated as literal "ships" instead of aircraft? please help, im a slut for world building and can't find a lot on this.

If you're a fan of a fic and haven't seen an update in a few weeks/months, what's the etiquette on asking the author the status?

There's nothing more frustrating than a dead WIP, but I don't want to annoy people by pestering them.

What is preferred - to post the whole fic in a comment, or to post a link to AO3? Lately I've just been posting AO3 links but it occurs to me that maybe that isn't how people prefer to read things. What is easiest for people or does it not matter at all?

Does anyone know of any good Finn/Rey prompts? I've written a good amount of Finn/Poe/Rey and Finn/Poe. Now I want to write Finn/Rey but I'm having trouble finding prompts for them.

I keep scrolling through my dash and misreading every single mention of Kylo Amidala (Trope where Kylo makes his fashion/life choices based on his grandmother in stead of his grandfather) as Kylo Armada, and I keep thinking that might be a good name for Kylo fans to call themselves. Join the Kylo Armada, they have conflicted mass-murdering hot boys.

I don't know if anyone knows, or if this is even a thing anymore, but I'm looking to do some very low-key TFA RPing... like, the kind of thing you occasionally found in smaller fandoms on LJ, no application processes or massive plotlines or anything, just random messing about with the characters.
