Though, I think people keep forgetting that the screenwriters are at the mercy of Disney. They could be all for gay or bisexual characters, but they don't have entirely free reign to write what they want.

Since mcu is a topic upthread, just look at how Disney forced the Cap 3 screenwriters/directors to change the plot of the script entirely.

To be fair, wasn't a big part of that change to do with Robert Downey Jr wanting to be bumped from a cameo to a leading part of the plot?

Yeah, his Kylo Ren-esque temper tantrum got him to co-star what will end up being Iron Man 6.

Really though, leaving TonybStark in the background of the ca:cw storyline is stupid.

But the whole point was that Cap 3 wasn't going to be about Civil War until Downey complained that he deserved a starring role and they changed the script to be Civil War instead.

Really? Was it originally going to be all about finding Bucky, because I have friends who are already willing to cut Marvel for not having a movie just about Cap and falcon finding Bucky and bringing him in.

That was supposed to be the B plot, but the main plot was still about Cap versus Crossbones, Zemo & Hydra.

I wanted Cap and Falcon: Epic ~~Romantic~~ Roadtrip Across America so badly, but I wasn't delusional enough to think I would get anything like it.

No. He's contracted through Infinity War and possibly beyond that.

But Downey wanted Stark to have a more substantial role in the film’s plot, which would give him more screen time and naturally a bigger payday. This angered Marvel Entertainment chief Ike Perlmutter, who ordered the screenwriters to write Iron Man out of the script entirely, sources said.

Behind the scenes at Marvel is an absolute mess from every angle. There's also an interview with the Cap writers about how they were asked to rewrite the script to make RDJ have a bigger role, but I can't seem to find that. I think it might have been on the DVD, come to think of it.

Yup, and Perlmutter is gone now, or at least demoted to somewhere he can't control the MCU finances anymore. (Judging by some of the ridiculous stories about his cost cutting, this is probably a good thing.) From what I gather, RDJr is getting paid more for being in a Cap film than Chris Evans, the titular lead, is.

Yeah, like $20 million more and also a bit percentage of the profits if the movie does well. Marvel has said that if Civil War does well, they'll attribute it to RDJ and put him in more of the future movies.

Even for AoU, he made $40M and the next closest was Scarlett who made $20M and everyone else made under $10M. It's crazy.

Damn, that's messed up. I mean, props to RDJ, his success as Tony Stark with the first Iron Man movie is what helped Marvel get the whole MCU off the ground. But the idea that Civil War's potential success would be attributed to him, rather than the fact that it's direct the follow-up to what is largely considered to be the best MCU movie, is so frustrating. Not to mention that superheroes vs superheroes may make for crappy comics, but it clearly builds a lot of hype for movies (which both Marvel and DC are obviously counting on this year). I mean, RDJ had a cameo in The Incredible Hulk but he doesn't get blamed for its poor reception. But if Civil War does well, it's all on him? Urgh.

Perlmutter is still overseeing the TV, comics and merchandise of Marvel. Feige reports to the Disney studio chief for all the movies.

Considering Daredevil and Jessica Jones are leagues better than some of the more recent mcu movies, I don't think it's that bad of a "demotion".

Tony Stark is the only role RDJ can play and make me believe he's the character (probably because he is a spoiled rich brat himself) so I'm okay with more Iron Man, even if he's there to be a giant dick. Which again, RDJ.
