I haven't watched it and am not really part of that side of fandom, but if we're going to stick with MCU, didn't IM3 cause some race wank?

It did, because the stereotypical evil Asian character from the comics was turned into a white British actor playing a stereotypical evil middle eastern guy to cover that a blonde white spurned geek character with a hard on for revenge on Tony Stark for standing him up on a roof in the 90s.

The wank was mostly from white fanboys with a hard on for comic accuracy, and if they had gone with a sure bio stereotypical Asian enemy, the race wank would have been from people actually affected by negative portrayals of Asians in film and a lot bigger and more widespread.

Interesting. I had only seen whitewashing wank, and I had only seen that wank about IM3 brought up to add onto wank about Marvel announcing they were casting Tilda Swinton for a role in Dr Strange that was portrayed by an Asian character in the comics.

The majority of fanboy whining I've heard is about her gender, but I can see it being difficult to accept as a 500 year Tibetan man.

I've seen people upset because Marvel could have cast an Asian actor in the role instead of casting a white actor, and if they really wanted to cast a woman, they could have cast an Asian woman.

But this has been tumblr wank, so I'm sure the wank about gender is wherever the fanboys hang out.

They already had Dichen Lachman take a recurring role in Agent's of Shield for a while there or she would have been good.

I think a lot of the whitewashing wank happened because people were upset that Marvel cast another bland white guy for Doctor Strange instead of the more popular POC fancasts.

Also, at this point, a lot of people were still angry that Elizabeth Olsen was cast as Wanda in AoU because they thought Marvel was trying to erase Wanda's Roma-Jewish heritage (not that two Jewish characters supporting and working for Nazis went over any better - and erasing any reference to their religion caused wank as well).
