A lot of the polyship fics I've read that go beyond three people tend to erase characterization for the sake of orgy porn. Sometimes it seems to be less about group or relationship dynamics and more about pushing pretty people together and assuming they'd all be happy together in a giant cuddle pile.

I ship the OT4 (and a lot of other poly ships in other fandoms) less for the big happy cuddle piles where everything is perfect and nothing hurts, and more because I'm fascinated by all the different little triangulations and alliances and frictions that develop in poly relationships. Like, the way A/B get along is different from the way A/C understand each other, and B relates to C differently because of their history with A.... All those layers and layers of dynamics. They require a little more subtlety to write than the random poly cuddle piles, but that is so what I'm here for.
Ah, I see. Tumblr posts are a different kettle of fish. I think it largely depends on who you're following - I personally haven't seen many (or any, come to think of it) posts about this particular OT4 or OT6 on my dash. (If anyone can suggest some relevant blogs, I'd love them forever). I stopped following the Stormpilot tag because it involved countless people just saying "I ship it", so it's very easy for people to make posts about a pairing and for those posts to start flooding other people's dashes. If you're following people who reblog all the posts relevant to a certain ship, then I can imagine it would get overwhelming very quickly, especially if it's a pairing you're not into, be it these two polyshipping combinations or any other ship.
That's a shame, that you've stumbled upon so many fics that don't care about characterisation. But unfortunately fanfic can be a crapshoot like that - character personalities being erased for the sake of pretty people being pushed together isn't a flaw that's exclusive to polyshipping. Maybe it would just be harder to ignore in a polyshipping fic? When you've got more personalities to juggle, it might be more obvious when those personalities start feeling off.
Yeah, I scroll by any fic with that tag. I think it's the "because Avengers" add-on that bothers me because it seems so fetishistic, and I know it's caused a lot of drama in fandom, with shippers claiming those that didn't ship it were bigoted and whatnot.

You also don't need to be this traumatized to ride. There are enough horrifying things out there that have or haven't happened to people without having to take inventory of everyone's individual experiences.
RPS usually makes me uncomfortable, but I'd get over that for Oscar/Domhnall. Going off of their interviews, I feel like they'd be very happy and giggly together.

I remember lots and lots of Bane/John Blake fics over at Nolanverse Batman, and call me crazy, but I think that was due to the actors playing the very shipable Arthur and Eames in Inception, not because Bane's and Blake's chemisty.
Anyway I don't mind.

I haven't read any for this fandom, but I'd gladly read some Oscar/Domhnall fic. Maybe John/Daisy since they're adorable together. Probably Oscar/anyone to be quite honest.
I don't mind RPF if it's just porn or fluff since I figure that's no different than magazines, fans, or reporters speculating about a celebrity's love life, writing those fluff pieces about their favorite book or food, or fantasizing about them.
I am, however, really uncomfortable with RPF that has a celebrity raped, abused, or written as "evil" because even though it is just fanfic, those fics are being written about real people and that seems like crossing a line. The same goes for siblings, parents, kids or partners of celebrities. If they're connected to a celebrity, but not actually famous or in the industry themselves, I think they should be off limits.

Does anyone (especially writers) have any tips for how to write nice comments for authors? I really love a lot of fills but find it hard to put into words why I liked them so much. It was written very well? It was hot?
I think most writers don't mind how you word it, as long as you comment!
Saying that, something I find nice is when a reader quotes a line that they liked, or mentions a section or scene they really enjoyed.
If you think the characterisation is good, or the dialogue is clever or the plot really works, you can say that too. But even a simple "this was great" or "I really enjoyed this" can go a long way. :)

I don't ship it in the sense of particularly wanting fic about it, but I would be pretty happy if it turned out Oscar and Lupita actually have/had a thing.
As a person who writes fic but has the same commenting problem, I second the above anon. As an author any comment brings a smile to my face, no matter how short. Even something like you said above. "This was really hot and written very well" is just fine. :D

Prior to getting into Sleepy Hollow a couple years ago, my primary fandoms were sports RPF(s). This fandom is the first one I've actually gotten shippy RPF feelings about in a while. And I basically just ship Oscar with everyone. And Daisy/John.
This absolutely started with Captain America but it's 100% still applicable here imo - people being talked about, maintenenced like and used as weapons. Definitely that.
