Prior to getting into Sleepy Hollow a couple years ago, my primary fandoms were sports RPF(s). This fandom is the first one I've actually gotten shippy RPF feelings about in a while. And I basically just ship Oscar with everyone. And Daisy/John.

::Sports fandom fistbump::

My primary fandoms are entirely RPF, so I clearly have no problems with it as a concept, though I do believe in doing so responsibly and respectfully. I once realized that when you googled a certain athlete's son, the first things that came up (before his own statistics) were gay porn fics of his father. That kind of stuff creeps me out. Same with when people forget about the line between fanfiction and reality. Basically, I think RPF is awesome, but inherently a different beast than writing about fictional characters.

... We might have been in the same fandom.

Hockey?

This was even a few years ago, before the shift to tumblr and the skew of the fandom toward younger fans (and fic of younger players) eroded the accepted boundaries between fiction and reality to an even ickier degree. I still love hockey and hockey RPF, but now I mostly keep it to myself/my friends.

I notice this happening in a lot of RPF and regular fandoms lately. I think the rise of celebrities on social media has eroded the fourth wall, and I see a lot of younger fans sending fic and fanart and really inappropriate things to actors, musicians, etc.

Yep! It was my main fandom for yeeeears. I used to write a lot of fic, but ended up having a moral quandary and eventually drifted out of the fandom.

I think that happened with a lot of people around the same time, because suddenly all the big prolific names dropped out and the non-tumblr fandom really died down. It's still one of the only fandoms I've ever written in, and my roommate and I still discuss and share stories/art/jokes all the time, but I've stopped being involved in the online fandom altogether. It didn't help that my ships are almost all considered rare pairs and I was never all that into Kane/Toews (especially not now) or Crosby/Malkin (unless it was vary well written, which hasn't happened in a long time).

Sorry, I just don't run into people who were part of that fandom back when I enjoyed the social aspects of it, so I couldn't help having lots of feelings at you.

I was a rarepairs person too (and in a smallish fandom like hockey RPF, that could be tough). I'm kind of lucky that a bunch of the hockey RPF people I followed on tumblr/twitter also jumped into Star Wars at the same time so I can follow them to this shiny new fandom. :D

I welcome your hockey RPF feels, anon. I kind of miss what the fandom used to be, sometimes.

Only a few authors working with that vast an amount of potential characters automatically means fans of most teams/players are out of luck, even if they're immensely shippable. And the popularity of certain teams automatically relegates other teams to villain status (says a Flyers fan, haha).

Oooh, who's doing SW fic now? Because I always need more recs.

Off the top of my head, I know of Mardia, Thisissirius, magneticwave, verity, hapakitsune, and amosanguis, who have all written fic for TFA fandom, and I think Ellievolia is working on something. And there are some people I follow on twitter and tumblr who post and tweet about TFA but haven't posted any fic yet!
