Well there's a vast chasm between what people fantasize about, and what we'd actually like to do/have done to us. I know some who kink it up as a way to deal with their trauma, to own it and control it, while others are repelled. Both reactions are fine.

Poe pines after Luke for basically his whole life. Which is not my jam at all, and yet ....

Not from TFA fandom, but I discovered that I am distressingly weak for any kind of breathplay/choking. It's funny because being touched on my shoulders or throat irl really skeeves me out. I read a few a/b/o prompts that I was surprised I was into since it's not my cup of tea normally (pregnancy is a squick, as is the gender essentialism omegafic generally falls into) but I think it was mostly the idea of desperation that I have an interest in. Makes me nostalgic for sex pollen.

... that being said, I started writing one as a fill until my sense of shame caught up with me. So. I guess I'm kind of a hypocrite.

I had to use Wookieepedia obsessively when I started writing in the new SW Universe, since everything I'd learned in the past 17 years was basically up in the air, if not completely out the window.

I also used my copy of the Official Star Wars Atlas, which was a little frustrating because the planets from the new movie aren't in it and who knows what other planets still exist BUT in the back there's a section for each movie and it shows what routes they took for each one. So that was very helpful.

I don't mind seeing "fuck" in my SW fic. I'm able to suspend my disbelief at least that far. And there are details in the movie that I found out of place and annoying, so I'm probably not a good barometer of that, lol.

Exactly. Only acceptable back in the days when you needed to memorize 2000-page epics to orally recite them, and needed a repeated refrain in order to help with memorization.

Re: What's your prompt to fill ratio?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-27 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Same! I can see why excessive prompting without filling or not acknowledging fills on your prompts bother people, but not everyone's a writer and that's fine.

I am weak for that in fic, too! Even just a claiming hand on a throat without much pressure is so gahhhh.

Re: What's your prompt to fill ratio?

I think the rule of thumb for people who don't write but post prompts is to contribute by also commenting on fills.

Post it, anon! "Finn doesn't do emotions right" is secretly everyone's fav and is consistent with the First Order dogma he was raised with.

Hux/Poe pairing?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
I am not against the ship at all but can someone please tell me where Hux/Poe is coming from? Is it based in the real people who play them's relationship??

It seems mildly popular so it's going beyond rare pair status. Just curious, the movie is not fresh in my mind but I don't remember Hux and Poe ever even stepping foot on the same planet. (Although they were both on the ship when Poe was captured, I guess?)

The actors were in a movie called Ex Machina (which I may have spelled wrong) together, and had a lot of chemistry both on film and especially during the press tour. It probably comes at least partly from that. (Like how there were lots of Bane/Blake fics for The Dark Knight Rising, despite the fact that the characters don't share any screentime, because of the actors' previous popularity together in Inception.)

Multiple OTPs

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Curious why so many people ship and OT4 of Poe/Finn/Rey/Kylo or even OT6 (Poe/Finn/Rey/Hux/Phasma). I can sort of understand the first, but I honestly don't get the second and an OT6 seems like overkill. Anyone have an explanation?

Re: Multiple OTPs

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's just a fandom habit that makes people want to mesh as many characters into an OTP as possible, even if they never interact on screen.

I don't know when the trend started, but it's really popular in mcu. For example, the "Everyone is Poly Because Avengers" tag on AO3 which made me so annoyed whenever I saw I had to block it.

Oops missing Kylo in that OT6 example but people probably got the idea. Ih ope?

This.

Oscar and Domhnall had some adorable interviews together for Ex Machina. I don't know if I'd want to see Hux/Poe on that alone, but it sure makes me want some Oscar/Domhnall RPS.

Domnhall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac starred in Ex Machina together, which is a movie about two guys sharing a house together for a week (and lady robots.) They have a really interesting dynamic in the movie, and clearly like each other in real life. Their interviews together are generally very funny, and Gleeson joked at one point about being excited to see Isaac and that they were going to hold hands walking down the street together.

There's not really any specific explanation, beyond it just being a prefence. Some people like polyshipping, the same way some people like slash or femslash or het or gen or whatever.

Group dynamics can be really interesting, seeing the way different combinations of characters work together, mixing it up, splitting them up or pushing them closer. Adding romance or sex into that dynamic changes things up even further, and people enjoy exploring that.

As somebody who enjoys polyshipping, I'm happy to see Finn/Poe/Rey is well-liked - it's very refreshing to see a polyship so widely and readily embraced. But Finn/Poe/Rey/Kylo seems less common, and Finn/Poe/Rey/Kylo/Phasma/Hux even rarer, especially if we're talking in terms of fills rather than just prompts. So I don't know if I'd agree to the idea that "so many people" ship those two combinations. I also wouldn't agree with an OT6 being "overkill". To me, orgies are fun: there really isn't a simpler explanation that that.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't feel bad! I'm kinda in the same boat as you. Honestly, I think people who say these things are more trying to be contrarian than anything else("everyone is trying to do the same and it doesn't entertain me!"). I say well though luck, it's an interpretation of Finn's character as valid as yours.

Good luck and I hope Finn helps you deal with that stuff. That's what's great about getting involved in characters!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone having a different interpretation of a character isn't automatically being contrarian for the sake of it. Some people genuinely dislike that interpretation, especially since canon shows that Finn can process more than one emotion.

They're rare in fic but I've seen a lot of tumblr posts about the OT4 and OT6 for this fandom.
