Title Guessing Game

Alright, alright, step right up, now placing bets on Episode 8 title possibilities. Rian Johnson has a history of one-word titles, but Star Wars in general has no less than three words.

What's it gonna be?

(My personal favorite I've seen so far is "Rise of the Apprentice")

How many fics have you guys read in total?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-20 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I've read a lot. I'm curious.

How many… ever? Thousands, easy. And back-buttoned out of thousands more. I have been known to re-read favourites too.

For Star Wars since TFA? Hmm, probably no more than 100-200, at a generous estimate, and many of those were shorter.

On the kinkmeme? Well, there are 35 pages worth of fills and a quick revisit tells me on average that no more than 1 or 2 fills per page really catch my eye (not including my own fics, obvs), so probably <70 all up here.

I am curious about how these numbers stack up with others now.

What, since I started reading fanfiction? Averaging, I'd say around 50,000. Who keeps track of that anyway? LOL

Let's see, there's the ancient Jedi temple with Rey and Luke, Kylo and Hux getting it from Snoke and probably turning towards Emperorship somehow, probably some kind of backstory reveal for Finn, Poe's (apparent) death, the regrouping from the loss of the Hosnian system and the center of government, with Finn getting recaptured and reconditioned and a 'the light side is fucked' cliffhanger to lead into IX.

"Star Wars: The Shit Hits the Fan."

okay this is interesting to know. I have around 600 bookmarks on AO3, 400 favorites from my fanfiction.net days, and numerous bookmared fics from various kinkmemes....I always thought this was a bit embarrassed of this but idk. Id say I probably read at least a fic a day, usually just short one shots but i awlays felt embarassed that i had that much time on my hands lol.

TFA Fic Feedback

(Anonymous) 2016-04-20 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
It was mentioned upthread that some fics don't get enough love / feedback / kudos, etc. If you have a fic and would like some comments or feedback on please post a link to it here.

Constructive comments. Not everything has to be sunshine and gumdrops but there is no point in rudeness since people work really hard on these stories.

Oh, I don't think so. Like painting a target on it.

You need to stop basing your image of Kylo on fanon because Adam disagrees.

Sorry, but it looks ridiculous to me. Too 70's, but without the chest hair. Whatever gets you going though, I suppose.

Re: fic posting angst

I'm starting to learn that AO3 hit/kudos ratio is pretty meaningless. I've seen amazing stuff get hardly anything, and popular stuff get a ton. (Tumblr friends thinking they'll be unfollowed if some BNF realizes they haven't liked it? Who knows.) Don't stress over it. I'm sure it's great! I haven't seen many SW fics that I didn't think were good.

Re: fic posting angst

A kudos:hit ratio only tells you about the people that clicked on your story. It could just as easily be a function of your tags and/or summary. If that isn’t capturing the content of your story accurately (often difficult), people clicking on your fic, looking for specific things in your story, might not have found what they were looking for. A good kudos:hit ratio means that people who looked at your tags and summary got what they came for, and nothing more than that.

Also, pro-tip, a couple of AO3’s “canon” character-name tags don’t syn with other ones sometimes, so there’s that.

I read fic for 17 years. Started with mostly Harry Potter and changed with every fandom I became part of.
I did a every rough calculation and came up with 15000 fics, but I would say it is more likely to be around 20000.

Form this kink meme? Hmm... maybe 30 fics? 50?
I have to admit that I enjoy reading the prompts more than the fics most of the time.

Wow, so many favs. I have some kind of system I cycle my current favorits through. Simple bookmark for reading later/again > fanfic folder in my bookmarks for keeping up with updates > "super bookmark" for "ohmygod, I have to go home to read the next chapter!" > Final stage: convert to e-book on my kindle. This is the holy gral. Only awarded to complete novel-length fic of supreme quality. I chose this fics over canon material. Only two fics made it so far. (one fic is stuck in "no updates"-limbo, but man, I keep this story with me as long as I can.)

Damn that's a skanky Bowie. I would be OK with Senator Amidala looking like Ziggy Stardust however.

Re: TFA Fic Feedback

Possibly, but I don't know how else to give those fics attention.

I don't want anyone to feel like they're going to be trolled or something, but there is a lot of good stuff that just gets lost on AO3 or even here just by virtue of being posted at the wrong time, or a million other reasons that are no one's fault really.

If this is a bad idea I'm sorry, really don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.

Okay, I'll play. This is a Sith!Rey/Jedi!Ben fic written for a round 1 prompt that didn't get much attention. Also OP had probably moved on since then, as they were silent on the matter. I would welcome some con-crit.

Unsure. I read in fits & bursts. For the tiny fandom with rarepairs, I can tell you I've read every single one, even when I haven't liked it. When you've got only 10 fics, beggars can't be choosers. For massive fandoms like TFA? I get pickier. I'd say probably my average for a big fandom is 40-50 fics tops?

Unless I'm actively in the mood to make a rec list, I don't keep track. I also don't have an ao3 acct so I couldn't give you a real # anyway

Stop with this pointless fear-mongering. You're giving the trolls what they want by giving up before the fight even starts.
