My first fandom before I knew what fandom is was Star Trek. My first love <3 I guess I was 10, 12 when I first got into it?
Later as a teenager it became the first fandom I was heavily and long-time invested in, too, with internet activity, reading fanfics, shipping, the whole deal.

I usually ship along two lines.
There are the canon or as-good-as-canon pairings I see on the screen, I just want to coo over them being adorable and happy together. I'm a sucker for supportive, caring relationships with honesty and equal power dynamics. I just want them to be a kick-ass team.
Then I have the fandom ships which I know are never gonna happen, but I love them anyway. They're oftentimes hateships, doomed, angsty, messed up or guilty pleasures for some other reason. I delight in how fucked up they are.
For TFA, I immediately fell in love with Rey/Finn, and loved the dynamic of Poe/Finn, but I didn't think about whether that would be romantic or bromantic or whatever. It didn't click how wonderful they would be as a couple till I got home. So naturally, I decided I need to OT3 ship them, too.
I think I got hooked to Kylux by the art and fic showing me how snarky and fun and just all around awesome (and fulfilling my need for dark fic!) this ship is.

DA
Well, considering we have no idea how long Rey will be gone, it's likely Finn and Poe would further develop their friendship while she was away. I really don't think the OP meant anything negative by this question.

Does anyone else ever get turned on when they're writing porn or am I just really messed up?
Okay, that's reassuring. I was getting a little worried.
Honestly, I think if what you're writing doesn't turn you on (if the purpose of your writings is to be a turn on) then you're doing it wrong.
You're not alone, nonnie. Sometimes it takes me awhile to write porn because I'm so worked up that I need to take a break. It's completely normal.

No, I meant "is this a joke" because that's what 85% of the stories on the Poe/Finn tag on AO3 already are. Close your eyes and click something at random, OP. You'll probably get what you're looking for.

Are you sure you're old enough to be on a kink meme?
Don't be a jerk. A lot of people have internalized negative attitudes about these things far into adulthood.
I prefer Ren, for a couple reasons.
I have been operating under the assumption (which Wookieepedia seems to support) that Ren is a last name and not a title. Ren is a man who hides behind a mask to keep himself at a distance from the world and the people he interacts with. He would not be on a first name basis with people.
The First Order is a paramilitary/military operation and in the military people address other people by rank and/or last name. When Ren interacts with his colleagues in the First Order, it wouldn't be appropriate for them to speak to each other on a first name basis, nor do I feel they have close enough relationships to be on first name terms.
I also typically read/write Ren/Hux stuff, and since Hux has no given first name, I dislike the asymmetry of seeing one of them called by his first name, which carries the connotation of a closer relationship, and one being called only by his last name or name and rank (General Hux.)

I love them with a few exceptions.*
I feel like they give us the opportunity to play with relationships in ways that we can't otherwise and justify situations that we just can't in canon. (For example, I like BDSM in fic but only when there's negotiation/out-of-scene stuff to accompany it and I just can't imagine that happening in most SW canon unless there's gratuitous hand-waving.) Plus I'm a very for-the-joy-of-it type of person, and if it makes me laugh it has a permanent place in my heart. The only thing I'm picky about is characterization -- if I can't see and hear the character saying/doing it in my head, I lose interest really quick.
I would never want to see the volume of AU fic overtake canon-compliant fic, but I think it would be a shame not to have any at all. :)
*fricking A/B/O. Pregnancy is a huge squick for me and I don't think I've ever seen this AU done completely in character.

Almost 30. Hp fandom vet here. I just wanted to say :THIS! It sounds like a medical problem and isn't sexy. Lol
I was just about to ask this! Personally, I think oscar, domnhall, and Adam are all super cute together. Daisy is just beyond adorbs.
Just curious since us old fogies had our reminiscent thread
That's normal. That's what it is supposed to do.
I kinda have a folder in my head with all fandoms, pairings and so on. I mentally flip through it looking what strikes my mood and go with it.
But it is so annoying when you want to write it down and I forgot everything...

I love hurt/comfort!
My theory, why I like Kylo (or everyother sad puppy outhere) so much is that he hurting already.
"Pre-hurt! - just add comfort!"
Instructions: Remove helmet and apply Rey. For steam release stap packaging with lightsaber. Let them stir at high temperature until plot thickens. Season with issues of your liking. Enjoy!

Doesn't have to be rey
But yea that's my fav part of kylo too

Any fandom, any pairing. Link it here! Why do you like it so much?
Aww but what about us asexuals though? I like to think that I write good porn...if sometimes a little awkward.
AYRT, being ace myself it doesn't necessarily mean having a low libido ;P But if how you write your fics works for you then that's super! (also potentially being able to recognise something as being hot without you yourself getting heated is a factor)
I'm not asexual myself, but a couple of my friends are, and they write damn good porn. In general, you don't have to be turned on by something to write it well. The actual mechanics can be researched, and the most important part is emotion and characterization, which doesn't depend on what you personally feel.
I'm late to the party, but I just want you to know that at least one person got your A+ Starkid reference...
