On the subject of misogyny, have you ever considered that a lot of the people writing this stuff are women, i.e., people who experience the negative effects of misogyny and sexism in everyday life, and there's a reason why that stuff carries an emotional charge?
Fantasy isn't reality. Exploring facets of something in fiction – particularly something that you have personal experience with being on the receiving end of – isn't the same thing as buying into it.

oh my god, fandom needs to stop using this excuse to justify their problematic issues. Most people who say they want someone to bottom to teach them a lesson aren't doing it to explore misogyny in every day life, they're doing it because they want a masculine or bad or stoic character to be seen as lesser for a moment or two because it gets them off.
I agree. There are people in fandom who explore negative stereotypes in fic, but as a queer woman I do feel like there's a lot more unrealized or internalized issues people write in fic for the sake of porn tropes. Sometimes slash fandom and some of the popular tropes for slash pairings makes me uncomfortable because it feels too fetishistic, but you can't bring that up without fear of getting attacked.
I actually meant it in a power way instead of a physical positioning/who is being penetrated way, but honestly the discussion that spiraled off of this was more interesting than what would have happened had I been more discerning with my phrasing.
