Oh, I forgot that fandom likes to ignore evidence of their homophobia and misogyny if it means they get to read about white guys fucking.

On the subject of misogyny, have you ever considered that a lot of the people writing this stuff are women, i.e., people who experience the negative effects of misogyny and sexism in everyday life, and there's a reason why that stuff carries an emotional charge?

Women internalize a lot of misogyny, it makes sense that they explore facets of it in fiction.

Fantasy isn't reality. Exploring facets of something in fiction – particularly something that you have personal experience with being on the receiving end of – isn't the same thing as buying into it.

Internalizing isn't the same thing as "buying into it."

Alright, then.

SA. Damnit, meant to switch out "buying in" for "internalizing". Time to quit wanking and sleep.

oh my god, fandom needs to stop using this excuse to justify their problematic issues. Most people who say they want someone to bottom to teach them a lesson aren't doing it to explore misogyny in every day life, they're doing it because they want a masculine or bad or stoic character to be seen as lesser for a moment or two because it gets them off.

It's just weird when they also said (if you parent up you can read the comment) that they identify with that character.

What I need is a way to blacklist every comment that uses the word "problematic" unironically.

I think you're giving fandom too much credit.

DA

I agree. There are people in fandom who explore negative stereotypes in fic, but as a queer woman I do feel like there's a lot more unrealized or internalized issues people write in fic for the sake of porn tropes. Sometimes slash fandom and some of the popular tropes for slash pairings makes me uncomfortable because it feels too fetishistic, but you can't bring that up without fear of getting attacked.
