I have a horrible feeling it's growing in popularity because it is the only pairing in the fandom where it's white-guy-on-white-guy

I also have this same horrible feeling.

I saw the movie once. I barely remember Hux, except for his Nuremberg Rally-style speech. How is he this popular? For that matter, how is whiny Kylo this popular?

I really hope I'm just missing some amazing dynamic, and that their vast popularity will all become clear when I get to re-watch.

Because I can't think what other explanation there could be that doesn't disturb me with its implications.

They spend the whole movie sniping at each other and competing for Snoke's approval, so I can really see the appeal for people who like hatesex. Romance/fluff/AU scenarios where they aren't bad guy frenemies, I don't see the appeal of.

Yeah that's pretty much all there is. There's some hilarious footage from the 2015 Comicon panel of Domnhall Gleeson trolling/going off about how his character is a representation of British imperialism thru industrial and military oppression while Gwen Christie and Oscar Isaac stare at him all, "lol okay mr. sinn féin." That's the entirety of the character.

I don't want the meme to turn into one of those toxic "Reylo is abusive/racist" shipping wanks, but I think there is precedent for these big white guy juggernaut ships realizing how huge they are and forming their own comms, so, just a thing to think about.

Fandom is hypocritical. It says it wants more diversity, more strong female characters and more characters of color. But when it comes down to it, nothing gets the juices flowing like a couple of skinny white male Nazi analogs fucking each other.

I don't much care for Kylux, though I don't have a problem with its existence, but this is a complete lapse of logic for two reasons:

1) what people want in profic and what they want in fanfic are often very different

2) the people talking about how much they want diversity and the people writing Nazi analogs fuckig each other are not necessarily the same people

Godwin's already? Trolls just don't have the stamina they used to.

How have you missed the constant "Space Nazi" references, both here and on Tumblr?

I'm not on tumblr and I haven't seen much of the specific term nazi because while I don't care for Kylie either, I am capable of using a scroll button unlike the OP.

It's hard to deny that Hux's speech wasn't reminiscent of Hitler. I was extremely uncomfortable during that entire scene for that very reason.

Uh....it's not Godwin,s, it's literally space nazis. They're called STORMTROOPERS, as in the Sturmabteilung.

Not to mention the other parallels:
- facist (and therefore inherently imperialist) ideology
- centered around technological advancement (namely weapons)
- if they strive to be like the Empire, then they would also have a distain for non-human races (no "aliens" as far as I could see work for the First Order but they are visible in the Resistance).
- (seemingly) giant and meticulous bureaucracy

Wow, judge much? I'm sure your kinks and pairings are all wholesome as fuck.

Poe/Finn still have just over twice as many fics listed on AO3. Maybe the ratio is skewed here because of a few prolific anons, or because this is a kink meme so people go for what they don't want to write under their own name, but I wouldn't start making inferences about fandom as a whole just yet.
