Re: participating in the kink-meme dropping, after ao3 fic updates are high?
(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)I only go to AO3 for SW fic if someone posts an AO3 link in the fills post. I am also far more likely to read a fill for a prompt that's not one I'm following if it's an AO3 post than posted in the meme itself because it's easier to read on my phone.
I check the meme and discussion post during my commute to and from work, leave comments, haven't done too many proper actual fills yet, but when work slows down in the summer some I'll have more writing time. Meanwhile I'm saving links to prompts that interest me and poking at them to see which ones might take off.

If that wasn't you the last time, then I do apologize. Complaints about prompt freezes/low comment counts/slow activity on kink memes get my hackles up, and I'm sorry for assuming you'd done it before. I still disagree that the meme has slowed in any significant way during the prompt freeze, other than in prompting.
Re: participating in the kink-meme dropping, after ao3 fic updates are high?
(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)If you're mainly here to read, AO3 is the way to go. If you want a fan community experience, ideas for writing stories, hilarious crack, the meme is the place to be. :)
Is anyone else afraid of Cap America: civil war? will it slow down SW TFA?
(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)I am kind off switching between can't wait for it to finally coming to theaters soon, and dreading the movie, because so many authors I like in SW TFA have been previously written for Avengers.
and I am feeling afraid and torn myself, I love being here, and don't want to be swayed away from TFA, but gosh, even only the trailers released about civil war are enough to make me temporarily forget about stormpilots and kylux...I know its silly, and there is space for all kinds of fandoms, its just...Avengers is huge. Its like the fandom thats going to eat all other fandoms??
How are you feeling?
I mean, I felt no threat with Batman vs Superman, because..that movie was..mediocre? I liked the inclusion of Wonderwoman, but otherwise, the whole plot was illogical in huge parts, and coming out of theaters, I knew, well, that one isn't going at least, in terms of fanbase here.
(though I saw a few fics appearing at ao3, but nothing that would indicate a huge fanbase, maybe it was more geared towards fanboys, then fangirls, but still).

No I have never complained before about freezes or things slowing don and neither am I complaining now. Making a simple observation =/= complaining.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)Fandoms come & go. Try being in a fandom where the show was canceled 5 years ago or the movie came out in the last century.
Hate to say it but yes, eventually the fic & interest in the new SW arc will die off or at least go stagnant.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)Considering I swingers from the Marvel universe to here from lack of fics and interest (can only focus on one thing for so long), yeah civil war may swing me right back. But the new SW movie is coming out soon too, so.
I am more afraid of a movie so bad it kills my interest. Avengers 2 and Thor 2 I am looking at you.

Every time there's a freeze, someone "observes" their perceived lack of prompts being filled & other activity on the meme. After a while, it starts to sound like complaining
Seriously has no one else here been on kink memes before? Of course more people prompt than fill; it's easier & faster. It sucks but that's the way it goes.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)The only thing Batman V Superman was a threat to was itself. What a pile of crap. Wonder Woman was the only good thing about it. Gal Gadot is fucking spectacular.
I'm looking forward to the crossovers from Civil War, particularly any where Finn and Sam Wilson hang out, or the Civil War plot turns into Tony cooperating with the First Order and Steve joining the Resistance and Bucky being Steve's childhood friend who was pulled into the stormtrooper program, etc.

I'm kind of curious from a sociology perspective to see a kind of 'migration' map of fandom. Who went to which fandom from what, who's active in multiple fandoms, which fandoms come back to life and why, etc.

I want to use this art for a dirty wrong bad Rey/Luke prompt where he keeps finding ways to rub off against Rey during training and is horrified and ashamed of himself for it but still desperately turned on, and Rey knows and likes it but plays completely innocent and oblivious because she can sense he gets off harder than he ever has because of the shame.
Making an observation about something because it isn't happening the way you think it ought to = complaining.

I like how your brain works!!
It didn't even occur me, that there would be opportunities for spectacular crossovers!! *brain went offline for a couple of minutes...out of sheer excitement..Tony and Hux...Finn and Sam...Phasma and Natasha...*
You are way more forthcoming than I am, I didn't wanted to say so bluntly, BvS was crap because, well there might be DC fans here..and I saw manifests saying that the movie was good. I am not convinced nor swayed, but still, don't want to rain on others parade. At least the movie gave us Wonder Woman, now I am really looking forward to her coming to theaters next year!

(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)Urghhh, don't remind me of Thor 2..okay, that is unfair, because I didn't even watch that movie, because I cringed at the trailers.
I should not judge without even giving it a chance, but I can't just bring myself, not even, when its on TV.
Av2:AoU was better than BvS, but not as good as it could have been, so I am torn. Damn, being torn is practically a requirement for being in SW TFA :D

Phasma and Natasha together in any context is mind blowing. I might have to sail on that ship.
*Extended rant about Batman V Superman below, contains some spoilers.*
If there were DC fans around, they would be the ones complaining the worst about BvS. Just about everyone I've seen or read who's read the comics or seen previous series or is more than passing familiar with the concepts of Superman and Batman roundly hate it. The local comic store was practically rebel headquarters against the movie.
The only person I've seen admit in public they liked it was some guy who basically only knew they were superheroes and went to see the movie for the explosions. Unfortunately he admitted he liked it in a crowd of comic book fans and got several earfuls of ranting about it.
I'm not a comic book fan and have been pretty meh about the DC universe as a whole, but that movie was a badly written, badly conceived, muddily shot, crapfest of the highest order that makes Batman and Superman look like morons and violent sociopaths. The actors did well with what they were given, but what they were given was garbage. If it wasn't for Wonder Woman showing up at the end and cutting through all the bullshit by just showing up and getting the job done, the movie would have been a complete waste.
If I'd known she was only going to be in little bits during the movie and then mostly in the end scene, I'd have gone in, come straight back out, popped my head in a few times, and then gone and watched the final battle and left before the eye-rolling multiple end scenes that amount to wasted film stock because everyone knows what's going to happen, they just draw it out an extra ten minutes of sheer purple prose filming.
*Rant with some spoilers ends*
TLDR: A pro reviewer somewhere online called it 2 hours of a troubled little boy smashing his action figures together, and I'm inclined to agree with that assessment.

Not sure about current fandoms, but a couple of years ago - maybe 8 or 9 years, I remember, somebody did actually made a very complex map drawing. Similar to what you were saying above, who went to which fandom and so on.
Sadly, I neither saved the map, nor did I save the link, so I cannot point it out to you.
I only remember vaguely a meta post , where another fan tried explaining, how Smallville fanbase left for Supernatural and Merlin and SGA fandom. And what type of fan went for what show for what reasons. It did ring true to me, at leasts, thats what my memory tells me.
Its surely a fascinating topic, and a huge undertaking, should someone try their hands on it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-10 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)I know people in universities are doing papers on various fandom subjects because I've had grad students doing their thesis asking to quote some of my fic (lol!) so maybe there's a thesis out there on it. If not yet, then there will be someday.
I kind of love how fandom has become this legitimized and acknowledged part of society now, but since I've been in fandom in one way and another since 1985, it kind of bemuses me too.

I'm impressed. Rom-com stuff is really hard to do.
If I'm feeling stuck in a rut in terms of what genres I can do, I usually go read something I've been meaning to read that's not what I've been reading or writing. Gives me some refreshment and perspective.

Right, yeah right.
Right, yeah right.
