What a bizarre get-up. More respect to Adam Driver.

My experiences match up to yours. I'm autochorissexual, which is a subset of being ace. I do really like reading character/character porn, but yeah, I'm not really a reader of reader/character porn.

I'm really curious whether the proportions of people who like vs dislike reader/character porn differ between asexual and non-asexual people at all, and it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't. Like many other things, whether or not you like reader/character strikes me as more likely to be about different ways of relating to fiction than different ways of relating to sex and/or romance in real life.

This.

Fandom itself can be pretty toxic and often becomes a hivemind very, very quickly. I don't think tumblr is any more toxic than any other internet platform, but it's more noticeable because nothing is private.

As much as I love fandom, there are people involved in fandom who are incredibly cruel and who take fandom-related things way too seriously (sometimes imo to the point of addiction. No one's hobby should ever consume every aspect of their life).

Why you write fic

(Anonymous) 2016-02-26 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm curious to see why everyone writes fic. Do you do it for yourself, to write plots you want to see happen to your favorite characters, or do you do it for other people? What gets you excited to write fic?

Alternately, if you don't write fic, any particular reason why? Have you ever tried or is it just something you're not interested in?

Uh, people who write fics also read them? And maybe don't want to read their own fics all the time and want to read their fellow fans' but notice a lot of fics are the same and they are kinda bummed and want to express that?

There is really nothing wrong with this post...It's understandable.

I get really into an idea and it's just stuck in my head until I can let it out. I like to explore how characters would respond to certain situation (forced to work with the enemy, AUs are fascinating and I enjoy reading people's interpretations) or why they are the way they are or nature vs nurture (great characters for this for me are Finn, Hux, & Kylo).

If it turns out okay, I may post it and it's great if other people enjoy it, too. Though, most of the time I write little snippets in a word doc or on my phone that usually are only read by me.

I primarily write as a hobby. It's a nice break from the professional writing I do at work or my own personal writing. Playing in someone else's sandbox is fun and I look at it as a nice writing exercise with characters and a universe I love. I like to write fic tropes and plots that I would never write in my own fiction or that I would never want to see in a movie or in real life. Sometimes creating a fic plot in my head that I might not even write is a great way to get my thoughts away from something that's bothering me (or keep me from falling asleep during a boring commute or meeting).

I haven't written much in the past few years, though, aside from some anon kink meme prompts here and there. I grew tired of how entitled some fans can be when it comes to fandom and fic. I wrote for some pretty popular fandoms and was lucky enough to have some well-received fics. While I understand wanting a new chapter update soon or wanting to read new fic from an author you enjoy, I wrote for fun during my free time. Demanding that I update quicker or getting upset if I went with my own headcanon instead of popular fanon headcanon or sending me a prompt with a tag of "a chaptered or long fic would be great!" - or a prompt that was something I very clearly said I would not write - was exhausting and started making fandom less fun.

TL;DR: I write for me. It's great if other people enjoy my fic, but at the end of the day, I do it for myself. I don't really care how many reviews or kudos my fic receives.

Largely I write fic because I want to read it. I almost never get caught up in a fandom’s juggernaut pairing and I like some pretty narrow, messed up specific dynamics. That said, most of what I write never sees the light of day, let alone gets finished.

I particularly love teasing out the details of world-building AUs (i.e. fusion cross-overs, one detail changed butterfly-effect type things, etc.) or how two characters would interact in weird situations. There’s something really satisfying about fitting all the puzzle pieces together. I’ll also tend to write spite-fic where I’ll go against a popular headcanon from pure contrariness, but I rarely post those.

So I’d write fic for those reasons regardless of whether they ever ended up leaving my hard drive. But the motivation for polishing a fic and actually getting it done, well, I’ll admit anon that for me, readers and their appreciation is the strongest factor for actually posting in that context.

Have you been in any fandom before tumblr?
Who cares if Tumblr wants to call out something. It's nowhere near as bad as some pre-tumblr fandom forums. Like in the beginnings of Harry Potter fandom, there were fandom forums and websites where they would try to get the other websites shut down because of shipping reasons, and they'd get them shut down citing falsified real life delinquency (ex. Ron/Hermione shippers have stalked me, sent me harassing emails, ect.) So tumblr is pretty mild, and hasn't ruined anything fandom wise to me. Fandom is crazy so of course you're going to get crazy shit around the board. Tumblr is also avoidable, you can stay here and on fanfic.net and on forums of your like.

You're right that it's nothing new, but I wouldn't say that tumblr is pretty mild, because the exact same things are still happening, and arguably on a wider scale.

Unless they end up getting dogpiled and bullied into deleting the fic in question. (I'm glad your fics are getting attention, but some of the angstier/kinkier ones have been getting extreme backlash and it's really tiresome.)

Kinky sex can be hot for these two if it isn't consensual, too, tbh.

Even better, IMO. Show me the sex pollen.

DA

After the anon who wrote P/F sex pollen was bullied into taking her fic offline, I don't think you'll be seeing sex pollen or dub/non-con anytime soon.

Favorite rarepair

(Anonymous) 2016-02-26 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Rarepairs are just the best because I would never have seen those characters together and now that I do, I am so into it. Which do you like best (with an example if you have it on hand)?

I am not gonna define what is/isn't a rarepair (there isn't some magic fic threshold I can think of) so anything you feel is counts!

I like Finn/Kylo. There is so much to work with that hasn't been explored (pre-canon where they could meet, the fact that Kylo seems to know Finn's face and the anger when he calls him traitor, the uneven power dynamics, possible force sensitive Finn etc etc).

Also Han/Finn or Han/Poe. All about that age gap, hero worship, experience kink potential.
