Have you been in any fandom before tumblr? Who cares if Tumblr wants to call out something. It's nowhere near as bad as some pre-tumblr fandom forums. Like in the beginnings of Harry Potter fandom, there were fandom forums and websites where they would try to get the other websites shut down because of shipping reasons, and they'd get them shut down citing falsified real life delinquency (ex. Ron/Hermione shippers have stalked me, sent me harassing emails, ect.) So tumblr is pretty mild, and hasn't ruined anything fandom wise to me. Fandom is crazy so of course you're going to get crazy shit around the board. Tumblr is also avoidable, you can stay here and on fanfic.net and on forums of your like.
You're right that it's nothing new, but I wouldn't say that tumblr is pretty mild, because the exact same things are still happening, and arguably on a wider scale.
How is someone claiming to be stalked, and harassed in order to get websites and forum completely shut-down done on a wider scale on Tumblr. Literally on tumblr, there's just a person hating on someone's tumblr and then blacklisting them, blacklisting them? I guess they can be immature and send anonymous messages. But I still think that's really mild compared to what H/Hr shippers use to do, they would literally post on every fandom falsely claiming that another user stalked them, harass them on certain websites and forums, and then would get other shippers to co-sign, and get that person banned, or even have their website shut down, and certain whole forums shut down. On tumblr, no one's going to get the whole tumblr shut down because of ships. So I'd say it's more mild.
No, people are doxxing, harassing, and attacking users and driving them off the site and off other social media sites. An unfounded rumor drove the xkit guy off tumblr permanently.
Doxxing is some serious stuff and far worse than banning a user from a forum or website.
But unfounded rumors have drove a lot of people off sites and off fandom pre-tumblr days as well, like a lot. People have shut down their websites, deleted livejournals, fanfiction.net, myspaces even, and have left certain fandoms for years, and or were drove off permanently as well way before tumblr was a thing. I'm not just talking about banning a user from a forum or websites. People have gotten their whole website taken down, people have been hacked and like I said, accused of real life delinquency as well. Fandom has always been incredibly crazy. I just don't think Tumblr is ruining things when it was like that beforehand anyways.
No one's denying that stuff was bad pre-tumblr, but if you're the airt, you said what happened on tumblr was more mild than pre-tumblr.
Doxxing is much more serious than getting an entire website taken down. It's someone hacking and posting personal, identifiable information on the internet - personal addresses, ID numbers, etc. - for people do with as they wish. There's a difference between being driven off fandom sites because fandom has a bug up their ass and having someone search hack your personal info and use it to disrupt your real life.
