NAYRT:

I was following that saga yesterday, and holy shit I felt bad for the author -- largely because I thought they actually handled the topic in a really graceful and nuanced way? There was one uncomfortable line but the rest of the fic was good, IMO -- and more importantly it wasn't boring. I was so disappointed to see people dogpiling that author because all it's going to do is make people scared to write Poe/Finn fic that isn't "everything is happy 100% of the time", which we already have a million fics of and gets really repetitive and boring.

Same. I can't fucking read another Poe/Finn 'everything is cute and fluffy all the time' fic. I JUST CAN'T I WILL EXPLODE.

This is how I feel about Kylo/Poe. GIVE ME ALL THE PROBLEMATIC FICS. *grabby hands*

Re: goddamit

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. It did made me uncomfortable to read and I had to go find some fluff after, but I think that was supposed to be the point. It was a horrible situation, there was no magical "fix it" where the characters confess their love and all the trauma magically goes away. Is not easy to read and it is probably not easy to write either. But there is no need to pile on someone like that.

I have read dark shit that I have been impressed with. I have read some dark shit that I have had to pause, step away from the computer and skip it because it was too much for me. Sometimes the aftermath have been handled well and other times, not so.

But not once have I felt the need to tell a fellow author they shouldn't write it. I just close it and find something else to read.

Ok, maybe once, but it was E.L James Fifty Shades of Grey, and think we agree I was justified for the terrible writing alone!

I'm not into it this second, but man, I bet sooner or later there'll be a fic out there that could GET me into it.

Re: How You See Kinkmeme Prompts

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only prompted so far, haven't filled yet, but I don't think writers should have to fulfill all requirements in a prompt, except maybe the big ones like not including certain squicks. At least I don't expect it when I post a prompt. Some of the highly specific details I see in prompts just seem superfluous. I can see how having specifics could help inspire some writers, but I can also see how it could discourage others. Personally I tend to go vague with my prompts when it's a rare pairing/trope/kink to increase the likelihood of someone taking interest.

I'm falling into the Rey/Luke pit. I feel like I need to branch out from Poe/Finn because the fandom is stressing me out... Like am I writing something racist? Will people give me shit if Poe is fucking Finn instead of the opposite? Am I heteronormative for writing penetrative sex in the first place?

In the Rey/Luke pit I already know how problematic it's going to be and I feel fine?

Considering that some of the people yelling the loudest either whitewash Poe or stereotype him as a ~over sexual, they should rethink their claims of calling other people racist.

Re: How You See Kinkmeme Prompts

I'm not great at ideas, so I'm here looking for inspiration and just filling rather than prompting.

I'll go for vaguer prompts or more specific prompts entirely arbitrarily. It's about which prompts hit my buttons and whether or not I can see the direction and shape of a story. Also, if the story doesn't seem exactly what OP was after, eh. In my experience most people are happy that their prompt got a fill and extra detail is more about them sharing *all* their ideas in case some struggling writer!anon like me gets a lightbulb moment from it and takes an interest. If my story ends up deviating more significantly, I'll ask first, but most OPs seem really accommodating about stuff that tonally matches their prompt, even if the details are little altered.

I've never had an OP comment negatively on a fill. Sure sometimes no comment if I write a fill from an early round, but never any negativity. Most people tend to be pretty cool in my limited experience.

Kink meme etiquette?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you consider good kink meme etiquette? What do you do if you notice someone who isn't aware of that etiquette and is making an ass of themselves?

General over all kink memes, not just this one.

I've seen the desexualization with Rey a lot in TFA. There are some fics and headcanon out there that genuinely portray her as lesbian, aro or ace and those are great, but there's a lot of "she's too awesome to be with anyone and so let's make her aro or ace" or "let's make her a lesbian and pair her up with a random background character so she doesn't get in the way of a slash pairing". These fics and headcanon are usually pretty easy to pick out.

I suppose it's better than the old fandom trend of erasing women entirely or bashing them until they're just evil hags who shouldn't even be alive because they might get in the way of two dudes having sex.

I will never forgive both the show and fandom of Doctor Who for doing this with Martha.

Same. I would be fine with some cute and fluffy fic if at least there was some angst thrown in at some point.

Re: Why you ship what you ship

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like what I ship and what I 'bate to are actually two different things? Like I SHIP Poe/Finn/Rey as an OT3, because it is good and kind and cool and queer and it's what my HEART wants. Like they should just hold hands and defeat the Dark Side with the power of hope.

But my boner wants non-con and fucked up people who tear into each other and just do damage because they're incapable of kindness. So Ren and Hux full of tension and competition and so much anger they could SPIT is my jam.

So if I wanna read something to distract me from a bad mood, or to laugh, or just to chill: OT3

If I wanna get off: Kylux

It was reported by a spoiler site that's been about accurate about every other mcu spoiler they've posted prior to the movie's release. But they did say that separate scenes with Bucky, Sam, and Sharon using the shield as the new Cap were filmed, similar to how three different secondary character death scenes are filmed. I do think that it's going to be Bucky, but I would still like to see the Sharon scenes at some point. I think she's going to be relegated to love interest in the movie tbh.

Eh, they'll probably kill Steve to give Tony some extra special manpain at the end of the movie.

If he comes back to life in Infinity War, it'll probably be by one of the space/magical characters which will probably make audiences less resistant, but I do like you idea of having people think he's dead and he's really being kept away or experimented on.

Re: goddamit

(Anonymous) 2016-02-18 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I just don't want to see Rey having a romance arc. I'm really sick of female characters I like and identify with having these overarching romance arcs, and Rey has bigger shit to deal with. I want to see her flipping around hitting people with her stick, but I can't write action scenes well.

I want to see the bad guys bone because then they won't blow up any more planets, tho.

Re: Why so rude?

I think the mod should probably just freeze things right when they first start to get wanky. Usually the mod will leave a comment on something wanky, saying that they'll wait and see if it escalates. But the problem is that it almost always escalates. The best kink memes I've been on have been ones where the wanks get nipped in the bud.

"people think he's dead and he's really being kept away or experimented on"

But that would just be a rehash of the winter soldier storyline.

That is my thought on most kinks. Sure, not hot right now, but at some point, some fic will make me think otherwise, haha.
