When I said slow burn, I guess I meant it?

Finn thinks about very casually running away. He nudges Poe and points to the fast approaching tuff of dark hair. Poe returns to face Finn and clasps his hand on his shoulder, "Speak of the devil. Here's your chance."

Finn, his mind still filled with images of Kylo and filth, wasn't particularly keen on seizing this particular opportunity. "I wish I knew how. I'm freaking out, man."

"You could start by just talking to him?" Poe shrugged and decided he didn't like the idea of watching his best friend flirt with his mortal enemy, "You know what they say: three's a crowd. Dameron out."

Poe gave Finn a final pat on the back, which evolved into a shove forward in Kylo's direction, before he walked off. Finn took a deep breath. "Hey, uh," and Finn made a quick executive decision, "Ben."

It might have been the way Kylo's expression changed or his subconscious Stormtrooper conditioning but he instantly feels like he shouldn't have been so...personal. Kylo resumes with his usual facial expression but with a wariness in his voice, "You're Finn."

Finn wasn't really sure how to keep the conversation going so he channeled Poe in his response. "Yeah, I used to," Finn lets out a small, awkward laugh, "like, kind of work for you."

When Kylo's expression changed again, Finn didn't really think much of it. Finn hadn't been out of the First Order long and he still had trouble reading emotions from facial expressions. It'd gotten him into trouble a couple of times since he left but he couldn't help it. It wasn't really a skill you develop when everyone wore masks most of the time.

When Kylo didn't respond, Finn felt the need to continue babbling on, "I was designation FN-2187. I was mainly sanitation so you probably wouldn't have noticed me. I was always the one that had to clean up after you'd slash up the consoles!"

Finn genuinely laughs, remembering how Phasma would approach him without saying anything but a section on the ship and he would instantly know that he was going to clean up after one of the knight's deadly outbursts. Finn, enjoyed the reminiscing and found it odd how memories that were once painful could now be recollected with incredulous amusement.

Finn keeps going, "We fought on Takodana," Finn imitated holding a lightsaber and made some swishing noises he instantly regretted. "You left a nasty scar on my back, you know. It must look pretty sweet though, people are always saying how rugged it makes my back look."

Finn lifts up his shirt and revealed his back, as if Kylo wouldn't believe that he actually had the scar that was inflicted by Kylo himself. Finn realizes he's been blabbering on about things Kylo already knows about. Yet, Kylo just seemed to stare at Finn blankly and Finn wished the other man would say something so he didn't have to start talking about the weather.

To the former Stormtrooper's relief, Kylo finally opened his mouth, "I know," He's not looking Finn in the eye anymore and Finn sensed a vague hostility in Kylo's voice when he continued, "You were the traitor. I don't think there was anyone in the First Order who didn't know you after Jakku."

The roughness in which Kylo spoke conjured up Finn's earlier fantasies. He quickly suppressed the scene playing out in his head: Kylo standing over a chained up Finn, calling him a traitor, telling him he needs to be punished, ordering him to beg for forgiveness.

Kylo didn't seem to notice and resumes in his normal tone, "Does the scar still hurt?"

The tone might have changed but the words did nothing to alleviate Finn's inappropriate arousal. "Not really. It was sore for a couple of months after I was discharged but now I barely know it's there unless someone mentions it." There was a far off look in Kylo's eyes and Finn wasn't sure what it meant, "You took a beating yourself. You were hitting your own wounds at one point."

"The pain helped me go on." Kylo said quite bluntly.

"I see." Finn said quietly. "The dark-side-Force thing, right?"

And when Kylo nods, Finn thinks everything those pilots were saying had to be true and didn't know whether that excited him or frightened him. He knew first hand how violent and unpredictable Kylo Ren was but he didn't know anything about the man standing in front of him.

Finn relates to Kylo in that respect. When he left the First Order, he was caught in a whirlwind and didn't have time to think about who he was. When things settled down and he spent those long hours in the medbay, just thinking, he realized he didn't know who he--Finn--was. FN-2187's life was regulated, controlled, and had a preprogrammed purpose since he was a child but Finn...Finn had 24 hours to do what he wanted and it was mind-blowing.

The silence had gone on too long and Finn knows this. He attempts a smile, hoping it will lighten the mood, "So, hey. If you're not busy tonight, maybe we could grab dinner and talk some more?"

It take a couple of moments but Kylo finally gives a hushed answer: "Sure."

Finn's so ecstatic that he rushes to where his friend's were conducting their drills to tell them. He waits for them to finish their maneuvers and as soon as they land he waves and runs towards them.

"Guess whose got a kind-of date with Ben Solo?" Finn beams at them.

"Who?" Poe asks before realizing, "Oh. That's great, buddy."

Poe wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as Finn had hoped but he found support in the other three, especially Rey. "I can't believe you worked up the nerve!"

"And I had just bet Jessika you wouldn't do it so soon," Snap lamented.

Jessika grinned at him. "I expect prompt payment," She turned to Finn, "but I am extremely curious on how you broached the subject. Details, please."

Finn recounts the conversation, leaving out the part about his erotic fantasy although they probably inserted it in themselves. Poe was the first to speak after he finished and the frown on his face could be heard in his voice, "He asked in your scar still hurt? The scar that formed after you got a wound that you nearly died of?"

Finn shrugged, "I mean, I didn't go into details and it's a reasonable to ask...right?"

Poe's frown stayed put. "No, it's not. 'Sorry for almost killing you' is a reasonable response."

Snap put an end to the burgeoning tension. "Where are you two going?"

"His room or yours is what he's asking." Jessika adds.

Everyone except Poe, his eyebrows knotted in thought, laugh. Poe reminds them that they still needed to run more drills or else General Organa will have their heads.

They all stalk off back to their ships except Rey, who gives Finn a small hug and whispers, "He's not a bad guy, Finn. Knock 'em dead."

Finn smiles. Rey always seemed to know what to say.

oh god, oh my godddd, this is gonna be hilarious and painful isn't it?

You're making me ship Finn/Kylo!!!
