Agreed, some characters should be allowed to hold onto their hate without that being treated as somehow irrational. Kylo Ren tortured and killed people. Trusting him is possible, with work, but I don't see the good guys actually befriending him as realistic. I'm not going to get chummy with the local child murderer after all, so why would they?
That said, somebody has to be the villain in a story. And when you've made the canon bad guy some kind of delicate flower who everybody loves, well, that means somebody else has to be thrown under the bus.
Plus people are lazy, and good characterization is hard.
I much prefer the bad guys go un-redeemed, myself. If I liked them as a monster, why would I want to change that?
That's true. I don't read redemption stories a lot and I completely get that they can be hard to do while keeping everyone true to themselves. But it's just disappointing I guess to see characters I like thrown under the bus as you said, specially when in any other situation their feelings are 100% realistic and rationale. And I don't see in a million years people giving Poe an ultimatum for not forgiving Kylo. Not even Leia would do that.

In fairness, all emotions are irrational. It’s weird how humans feel things and I’m concerned for them in my glittering silicone circuits. They also seem oddly reluctant when I offer to try and fix it… but that’s irrational humans for you!
Sweetness, you have clearly been asking to fix the wrong humans~ I would love to swap out my fickle emotion-inducing-chemical-secreting organs for something cold, hard, and logical~ But meat tends to ruin delicate circuitry.
