Your example is exactly what led me to my generalization. And I admit, it is somewhat mean-spirited. I still remember reading a snippet of Twilight, as presented by a family friend's young daughter, and going whyyyyyyy? Then I remembered I used to read Anne Rice. Derp.
Sometimes you liked one thing as a much younger person, grew up, realized it perhaps wasn't the best thing to like, then becomes vocally against the very same thing.
What I don't understand is why such aggression? It is hard enough to find people with somewhat common hobbies. Why attack them? But then fandoms are bigger now, and a lot of people don't even stick to 1 handle anymore.
In her case, in my own opinion, she is now a Gender, Women and Sexuality MA student and focusing on relationship violence/unhealthy relationship so I think it's just a really sore reminder, hence the aggression on her part.
From a personal standpoint, I can't get it either. As many people here say, either scroll on, block or ignore. Though, I guess I can understand being confronted with behavior that one feels is childish when they are an adult by other adults. The "you should be over this phase/how can you not have outgrown this?" reaction that elicits an irritable response. Or likewise, they just want people to like and don't like what they like and don't like, simple as that.
Overall, I agree people should be left to like what they want and, unless it's clearly illegal, they should be able to without harassment.
