As much that had to be retconned, it's really not a good thing that the old canon is gone. At least, not for those of us who grew up with it and invested so much time in it.

The parenthetical isn't where the retcon statement is, and is unrelated to it. Statement about the retcon for force ghosts is a statement. Parenthetical is an unrelated point of uncertainty and conjecture based on the 'I don't know'

How is 'I don't know' an indication of joking? It's a preface of lack of concrete knowledge, followed by a theory.

The old canon has some bonkers shit. I'd think it might have been ewoks too.

The moment they clarified with "I don't know" it became apparent they were joking about the ewoks. And they themselves stated that maybe Anakin had learned from Obi Wan, making it clear that was just a guess.
