Kylux relationship and the existence of Snoke invalidates popular hc?

I've seen time and time again where Hux is easily able to control Ren and is able to manipulate him. In turn Kylo is blindingly loyal.

It's an interesting take on their relationship. But Kylo is already loyal and dependent towards snoke. And i don't really see him being swayed that easily. I guess it depends on the writing. But We, the Kykux fandom, may have replaced the creepy old Holo with a handsome substitute.

Interesting point. I think it's largely that people see Kylo as clearly manipulated by Snoke and interpret as "easily malleable" while interpreting Hux as a tactical or interpersonal genius, which is fertile grounds for that sort of dynamic.

I admit I would be more into Kylo/Snoke if Snoke wasn't gross looking though :/

Without getting into my bullet-proof loyalty kink, and what sort of stories I would be willing to read to get it sated, I think there’s a lot of… interpretation… that can be had with Kylo and Snoke’s relationship.

So it’s pretty typical of dark side-users to have very complicated love-hate feelings toward their master, though Sith win the prize for the most fucked-up master/apprentice relationships (my favourite example being Maul’s answer to the “try to kill something you love test” was to earnestly try and kill Sidious). If there isn’t some part of Kylo that really loathes Snoke, then he’s even more of a pathetic failure of a dark side-user than explicit canon would suggest. Hux, nearly guaranteed Force-null, would likely code as “not that kind of threat” in the way that another Force-sensitive would not.

As for Kylo falling to the dark side because of Snoke… well I actually prefer minimal Snoke intervention because I don’t like taking away too much of Kylo’s agency in his choices. Maybe I should put this under the Harmless Unpopular Opinions thread, but waaay back in R1 someone prompted “Kylo chooses to turn and kill Luke’s students. Afterwards he hears Snoke for the first time” or somesuch, I’m probably mangling the wording. It’s almost certainly not canon, but when I saw that prompt, I wanted it to be true so badly. If you take Leia and Han’s worst traits, it makes perfect sense to me that you end up with something like Kylo.

But as always: Author, Convince Me. If someone writes it well enough, I’ll accept just about anything in the context of a story.

I'm not in the Kylux fandom, but you bring a good point. It's a thought I've had about the idea of Kylo "redeeming himself" type of scenarios too. There needs to be a big catalyst for me to see turn away from Snoke and if that happens, I don't see him blindly following anyone else.

This is why I like the idea of him sort of following in Luke/Kenobi/Yoda's footsteps of just going away if he's redeemed and not killed.
