I was a bit underwhelmed by Poe's character. Before I saw TFA, everybody kept raving about him, so I expected him to have more screentime and more of an impact on the story.
I felt the same way about Hux. People were acting like he was a major bad guy but then all he ended up really doing was giving a speech and whining. I feel like the Starkiller could have destroyed the Hosnian system without his character. The whole constipated nazi general thing 100% did not work for me.

Same. I think with Poe it felt like we were missing scenes, which I guess is fair considering he was meant to die and maybe Oscar was busy with X-Men. I'm crossing my fingers we get some real focus on him for the next film.
Hux I actually completely missed the first time I watched the film. Domhnall Gleeson seems like cool on interviews though so if he does get a bigger role (which I doubt because there already are so many characters and we will be introducing a new supposed lead) I look forward to him and Oscar interacting again.
Hux was definitely not important in TFA, he did his speech showed up a couple times and was inessential the rest of the time.
I actually think the actor was miscast in the role, he's an adorable person and has been great in several other movies but there wasn't anything formidable about him as Hux. Granted, a lot of people read Hux as being less overtly threatening and more of an evil space bureaucrat but personally nothing about his performance really resonated with me which is a shame since I've liked him in absolutely everything else I've seen him in.
Sometimes I imagine someone else in the role entirely when I read fic, but that is just me.
