I used to smoke in college. Most of the people I hung out with in college (which was in a rural area with a lot of working-class folks) smoked. When I moved back to my city (white-collar metropolitan suburbs), I quit, because suddenly nobody else smoked. I don't know if it's just common for college students to pick up smoking or whether it was a cultural thing.
