I'm the smoker from up thread, and yeah, this is a really good point. I started smoking when I was 15 because a lot of my friends did. I'm from a culture where it's very common for businessman to smoke- my father did, most of my male teachers and about half of the female teachers did, my friends did... everyone did it, so it was normal for me.
And argh, chewing tobacco. Tried it a few times in one of my failed attempts to stop smoking. It tastes like rancid ass, I don't know how anyone can put up with it. Of course other people say the same thing about my cigarettes, haha.
