For those of you who like alpha/onega/beta dynamics in fiction, what is it about the trope that appeals to you?

The bonding/claiming aspect. I like that it's a more animalistic and base version of marriage and soulmates. One of my kinks is biting anyway, so I really love the alpha/omega fics where biting someone during sex bonds you to them and is a visible way to mark/claim them as your partner.

Also the "excuse" for someone being so desperate for sex they'll start rutting against anything trying to get off until they have physical contact with another person.

I don't really have any interest in the pregnancy aspect or self-lubricating assholes or whatever.

mindless needful lust, intense penetrative fucking for days on end, bonding

The uncontrollably rough sex, and pretty much exclusively that. The kinds of fics that get too into the biological aspects of breeding or pheromones or (most especially, *gags*) bonding glands are very much not my taste.

Because I am a huge nerd, I like gender metaphors and societal or genera deconstructions of ABO dynamics. I have read some really amazing fics that have flipped societies where alpha’s are the rare type and viewed with suspicion as uncontrolled beasts by an omega-heavy society. There’s also some great fic out there that explores omegas who loathe the assigned gender roles and manage to find alphas who feel the same way. I just like weird power dynamics and biology fighting against personality. The porn matter less to me in these 'verses.

What I don't understand there are the fics/universes where the alpha/omega are treated as genders, BUT YET there are still male and female genders too at the same time.

I like people struggling with and adapting to their respective roles. One of the best A/B/O fics I've ever read was set between an omega and a beta. Those two are already dysfunctional and unhealthy enough as it is without A/B/O dynamics, but that bit only managed to underscore it and made it even more powerful why they wouldn't and couldn't work out.

I also love omega/omega pairings, asexual omegas/alphas, just basically anything that goes against the rigid rules of the universe itself.

Other things I enjoy:
- When it's introduced as a sudden change that happens with body horror elements which seems to be, unfortunately, rarely the case.

- Give me some kind of scientific/biological approach, discuss the omega rights movement, the way omegas/alphas are excluded from the workforce, hiding their respective orientation, omegas using heat suppressants etc. and I'm a happy puppy.

- Extremely controlling/intense characters being omegas, reduced to their instincts and desires. There's nothing as sexy as someone being vulnerable who usually avoids it.

The loss of control. The way it can pull together characters who might not normally get together, or in my favorite flavor take a character who is reserved and reduce them to desperation.

I also like the lack of control trope, but I fucking hate omegaverse. I don't understand why it can't just be a pon farr type situation. Why all the knotting and dripping lubricating buttholes and gross shit?

So basically nothing appeals to me about it.

Yes to all the stuff people have said about the dynamics/lust/control stuff, but I would also like to chime in as a huge fan of the "gross" bio stuff. Knotting, pheromones, and wet holes are my jam.

What it comes down to for me is my love of xeno. I like fantasy and science fiction. I love sexuality that is different than our own and the different social systems that go with it. I prefer things that are more variant than abo, but I appreciate the easy flow and access of omega verse. It's like a beginners level entry into alternative species sexuality. I also enjoy the particulars.

For instance I really dig self lubrication. I don't understand why people find it so gross, I mean, have they never encountered a cunt before? It makes sense for something that's made to be fucked to get wet. And if your going for a hyper sexual species where penetration is frequent for people other than just the vagina havers it makes sense.

Knotting is cool because it's overwhelming/inescapable. Pheromones are interesting because they add a level of influence that creates tensions.

I could go on, but you either like it or you don't. I've always liked erotica that isn't entirely human. I prefer it to the completely human average sex scenes which get old to me. If anything I want 10000x more weird bio shit, not less.

Have you seen that fic that was posted recently (yesterday or so) that has "Millicent" as Hux's pet tentacle monster, which he uses to force really bizarre xeno sex on Finn and Poe, who are then forced into omega and alpha roles because of the chemical pheromones Millicent forced them to ingest, and then have to have a/o sex in front of Hux?

Hell yeah, especially your comment about self lubrication.

People don't find self-lubrication gross, they find self-lubricating assholes gross, because anything dripping out of that location is almost certainly carrying some fecal bacteria along with it. I'm not saying you have to find it gross, but as far as not understanding goes, that's why.

I like it as a place to explore the relationship between biology and gender and society. Omegaverse is like a heightened mirror of our own society's gender roles. I don't specifically seek out omegaverse fic, but I enjoy well-written stuff that explores the AU as a metaphor for gender in our world while also using the distance of it not being about men and women to kink on gender in places where it's too close to home otherwise. Sometimes it's easier to get off on biological determinism, being "wet" (self-lubrication isn't that bizarre, most women's bodies do it), impregnation, rough sex, etc. as a woman when it's not about a woman. But also kinda about a woman, metaphorically. Haha, I don't know if this makes any sense...

I like xeno, and to me, omega verse is a good way to get xeno elements in pairings that normally wouldn't be a place to find them. I like weird biology, desperation, and even the motel thing isn't a problem for me- I like kidfic but prefer slash, so it's a good way to get kids that are biologically related to both fathers.

I love it when the world-building states or implies that Omegas are essentially the Victorians' female ideal; ornamental, but weak and a slave to their sexuality. To be coddled and taken care of and displayed, but not taken seriously.

And then you have the omega of the story, who just doesn't fit. in. And doesn't want to fit in either.

That's probably why I love omega!Kylo so much, because he's so perfect for that kind of stuff. :D :D :D

I also dig the body horror aspect of it once the porn kicks in. Taking a strong and independent character and turning him into a needy mess of a cock-whore. I love it even more when he's, on some level, aware of how debasing his situation is even as he's ass-up on the bed and begging to be bred like a bitch.

When it's nothing but loving happiness and "being an omega comes with no negate connotations whatsoever!" and babies ever after, I'm completely turned off.

I don't read a lot of Omegaverse, but the few times I do it's for the world building. I enjoy when authors try to tackle the social issues that kind of universe would bring up, specially when you get Omegas actively trying to change the dynamics where they are more than incubators or something pretty to be looked at.

Which I guess is not a very sexy look into it...but I love it.

I also like when the dynamic is changed for the ships with Beta/Beta, or Beta/Omega, Alpha/Beta or even Omega/Omega (that Omega!Poe and Omega!Finn story was heaven sent) and Alpha/Alpha stories.
