fuuuuuuuuuuck.

It was canon, definitely, before the Disney buy, because it was in the books and the books were canon.

It could still be canon, because old canon is not formally out the window unless new canon contradicts it, but one should not assume.

I choose to believe that it's still canon.

This is JJ Abrams. He does canon reboots by blowing up planets.

It's not just the director. It's all of the ancillary materials as well that he has nothing to do with.
