Ok, as a person who hangs out online where there are people who are ESL who are having difficulties with English that attract wank, what's a way an English speaker can help and provide some context to the English learner for why people seem so upset by what they posted?
My intention is genuinely only to help, not to blame anyone or make anyone feel bad for making a misstep that would likely not have appeared in a textbook, and they'd have little chance of knowing without a person providing some explanation.
Tact might be a good start, but in your case I would strongly advise you not to attempt to "help" in this regard in future, because you're not very good at it and only seem capable of upsetting people.
Take a step back, go on some ESL-relevant websites and watch how other people do it if you really want to know, but it would be a good idea for you to abstain for a while until you get the hang of interacting with other people.
I didn't get that tone from the ayrt at all, but I didn't think the op was saying anything wrong either. I think everyone here is wank fatigued and assuming everyone else is trying to star shit, so they start it first.
The AIRT picked apart the OP's word choice to the point that it was pedantic. People tend to criticize ESL speakers for word choice far more harshly than they criticize native English speakers, and I don't really think the OP's post or replies necessitated a lecture about the implication and connotation behind common words like "real" or "probably" which are rarely taken literally.
I don't have an opinion one way or the other about a different archive, but the anon correcting the OP came off as sounding very intellectually superior. OP's posts and comments weren't difficult to understand and their implication was clear, so the grammar comments were unnecessary.
It's presumptuous of you to force help onto people who weren't having difficulty, not seeking help, not in an environment where they were expecting this kind of help, and were clearly trying to talk about a different subject altogether.
General guidelines: help when someone asks for help.
