I'm not saying it's causation, I'm just pointing out that it's a difference because the OP said the populations are likely similar. People in this kink meme are younger and wank more, not necessarily younger and hence wank more.

I'm trying to find a similar fandom - maybe the sherlockkinkmeme? I only remember occasional wank, whereas there was plenty on tumblr.

Star Trek 2009, the various SPN kink memes, MCU

They all had a lot of wank. The ST meme was better about deleting it or cutting it off before it escalated, though.

SPN was just wank all the time, and MCU had highs and lows, but things really blew up with the hydra trash party post-TWS.

I also feel like the SPN ones that were writing-focused had extremely high quality writing (the kink was kinkier, the angst was angstier, the horror was...horrifyinger), because the wanky memes had an effect of concentrating the wank in those spaces instead of letting it spread everywhere.
