I've seen people in TFA fandom saying they'd be disappointed and upset about some really bizarre things. I was searching through some tumblr tags and came across someone who actually said they'd be upset if Rey/Jess didn't happen in canon which....seems ridiculous to me because Jess had what, one line? Not to mention they didn't even interact.
I think some people in fandom don't understand that popular fanon =/= canon.
I know the difference, and this person was actually upset about Rey/Jess and their post was about how it would be such a step forward to have a lesbian hero.
That's true that it would be a step forward, but personally I'd rather it (and any romantic plotline or character development, really) to come organically from the interactions of well-developed characters, rather than slapping a big "Love Interest" sticker on any character just for the sake of having a romantic plotline.
I like Rey/Jess in fic but that's more because of a lack of a better femslash pairing than any true love of the pairing itself. I'd be surprised if they even interacted in the next two movies.
