DISCUSSION/OFF-TOPIC POST

Use this post for things that are neither prompts nor questions for the mod.

I find it frustrating that the mods here arbitrarily freeze certain things

without clearly stating why or what to do next time. "Be nice" is the vaguest rule, and I feel like its application in the off topic post (where we're discussing and open to debate) should be different from its application in the prompt post (where we should be much more tightly policed to keep people from feeling like they're scared to write).

Things are arbitrarily frozen because those are the comments or threads someone reports in the mod post.

I disagree, people are clearly being rude on here to get a reaction. Freezing is the best way to prevent wank from escalating. If you want to argue go somewhere else. I prefer a more pleasant discussion space, and that seems to be the goal of the mods.People should be nice in general, just because this is off topic doesn't mean it should be a free for all for being unkind and aggressive

I disagree because it makes no systematic sense. It's more pleasant sometimes, and not other times, BECAUSE THERES NO STANDARD.

The standard is if it's bothering someone enough to note the mod, and it isn't someone crying wolf for lols or w/e it gets frozen. Read the mod post if you want explanations and stop beating the dead horse.

The standard is there is no standard for deciding when something is "genuine" vs "for lols" and it doesn't bother you until you're actually in an ambiguous situation, and then you'll realize how arbitrary it is.

Can you give an example of an arbitrary freeze? Because I personally haven't encountered it

I've been in the situation and had a thread frozen and took a step back an realized it had been getting out of hand. You just need to get the chip off your shoulder long enough to get some perspective and objectivity. Some perspective and objectivity

Some perspective and objectivity

Some objective and prespectivity. And a ham sandwich.

They freeze things that someone has reported to them in the mod post. It's not arbitrary it's someone on the meme finding something is making their experience here less fun and bringing it to mod attention for review. It's quite standard modding.

Agreed -- and tbh it makes the meme a while lot more pleasant to hang out at for me at least. Nips that wank right in the bud so fast I usually only see the tail-end.

Maybe you'd feel better hanging out at a different meme with mods that don't do anything except lurk and open a new post when an old one gets full. I'm sure you can think of one.

I agree. It's fine to freeze or delete trollish/wanky/rude posts, but it would help if there was a simple modly comment. It doesn't seem like the mod is really doing anything when they just freeze the thread without addressing the bad behavior.

This. Sorry if you're seeing this and annoyed about it, mods. I get that it's tough and you're doing it for free, but this is how I feel.

I think it's good that the mods are on top of the wank. However, some kind of explanation for the freeze would give the mods more credibility. As it stands, it seems like they're just sweeping problems under the rug without addresing the actual problem.
