For me personally, it's been a combination of 1) needing to focus on school
I think this might be the case right now. Didn't the last freeze happen before most people started school again?

IDK, based on the age thread we had awhile ago and the answers there, I kind of assumed a good number of people on this meme weren't in school anymore. Not everyone in fandom is still in school.

You can be in university at any age.

Yep -- I'm the anon who first mentioned school, and I'm a grown woman doing grad school. School =/= young.

Also, you don't have to be a student for the beginning of the school year to affect the time and attention you have to write fic.
