Yeah, like you say, it's written that way in the novels. But it flips back and forth - I can't remember if it's spelled out (Artoo) in the narrative but written as their numeric code (R2-D2) in the dialogue, or the other way around.

But I do get what you mean. Seeing Artoo or Threepio never bothered me, but reading the TFA novelisation and seeing BeeBeeAte was just ...urgh. It looks wrong. Funnily enough, I don't mind either way in fic, I leave it up to the author's personal preference, but seeing that in the official book set my teeth on edge and I can't even say why.

I think I hate "BeeBeeAte" because those are all actual words. Artoo is easy enough to mentally ignore as a name, but bee and ate are words with other meanings and it just looks horrible and unignorable like that.

Aaarg. I'm definitely waiting for the paperback now. Damn you Foster, you know better than this!

Or. If I get the Kindle version, is it possible co copy-paste the text into Word and replace all the 'BeeBeeAte's with BB-8?

I have no idea about the Kindle version, sorry. But while I enjoyed the book for what it is, and am glad I read it, the whole "BeeBeeAte" thing isn't even the most jarring thing about the novelisation. So mentally prepare yourself when you read it, because you will be pulling o___0 face more than once
