I have the same problem with being bored by a lot of TFA fic. Not so much here on the kinkmeme, because I think prompts encourage creativity, but in other places. Tumblr, and AO3 mainly. There was a time in the first few weeks after TFA came out where nearly every Finn/Poe fic on AO3 had exactly the same basic plot. I know this is still a new fandom, but it seems like it's less imaginative than my other fandoms. Still maybe that will improve once it has been around for a while longer.
I even find a lot of the prompts on the kink meme repetitive. I'm at least grateful that the fills are so varied.
ITA agree about Poe/Finn. There's not much variety in the fic on AO3, though in the past two weeks I find that a lot of the fics showing up have them as a secondary pairing to a Kylo/Rey or Kylo/Hux fic. At this point, I don't even know what I want, and I never thought I'd say this, but I don't want any more mutual pining fics.
Agreed. I'm a bit surprised by the lack of long, plotty in-universe fic for Poe/Finn. Usually the big pairing in a big fandom has a lot of longfic a month in, but I've only seen a few. Maybe long, plotty fic writers aren't interested in TFA or Poe/Finn?
I think a lot of Poe/Finn shippers are more interested in the idea of them together than in their actual dynamic and how it would play out. Part of the problem is we have so little canon to go on in regards to who these two guys are and what their personalities are like, despite Finn being a main character. Hopefully the sequels will develop them both a bit more.
I suppose that makes sense and probably also explains why I'm already bored of fic. It's just unfortunate because there are so many great prompts for theme on this meme that could have great potential to explore their future relationship or dynamic.
In most fandoms I find that fans only invested in a pairing for the sex tend not to write longfic. I think when more fanon about their emotional connection and relationship is established the longfic will start to develop.
