What's been your favorite items and where have you gotten them? I've been really enjoying being in a fandom with actual stuff to buy for once. For me it's been Kmart tshirts, sticker books from dollar tree, and all the bb8 stuff on Amazon
I cannot afford it either but I'm super happy it exists. I love seeing photo/gifs of it people post, especially with cute little outfits or concerned cats
The store in the mall had one set up in a little sand table and was letting anyone who wanted to run it around in the sand. It was the most awestruck, quiet and well-behaved group of kids at that table waiting for their turn that I have ever seen.
I went to play with that when they first came out, and the guy at the kiosk was trying to sell me on some other Sphero toy instead because it had more features. I just looked at him blankly and went back to playing with BB8.
My boyfriend's brother and his mom got us one for Christmas and I love it so much. I don't take it off the base all that often anymore, but I push the button and watch it look around.
I got this t-shirt from the Disney Store: http://www.disneystore.co.uk/star-wars-the-force-awakens-droid-t-shirt-for-adults/mp/88088/1500002/
It's so cute, and the material's soft without being too thin. It's annoyingly hard to find Star Wars t-shirts designed for women (or any geek t-shirts, for that matter), so I'm really happy with it.
Oh, I've just realised that it's listed on the website as 'adults', whereas in store it was listed as 'womens'. That's pretty cool, to see that most of their Star Wars clothing is now either listed as 'kids' or 'adults' without specifically defining which gender it should be for. ^___^
I'm someone who tends to go in and out of fandoms and have left a lot of fandoms behind. I always wonder: what do you do with all the fandom-themed stuff you physically own once you're not in the fandom any, ore?
I only tend to buy things that I know are going to be lasting franchises. Like Star Trek, or things I've loved from childhood and have already stood the test of time/have nostalgia.
I mean, when I enter most fandoms for single movies I know its a temporary relationship. However, me being a nerd is for life. I'm 24 and I can't think of any fandom stuff I've regretted buying over the years. Plus, what do you do with most items when the shine wears off? They either last the test of time or you end up losing them along the way because you stopped caring about them. It happens with cloths all the time.
I think I'm different in terms of things I've loved all my life, because I can't think of anything with merchandising that I liked in childhood and continue to like. There isn't a movie or a show or a band that I have unchanging love for. It's really only books, and I have the book, and that's it. Maybe it's just a cultural difference or something?? Or different habits, etc. My parents have a minimalist style and don't keep knick knacks around, so it's probably just how I was raised.
I rarely purchase fandom-specific things, but I do end up amassing collections of themed craft projects, possible costume pieces, and merchandise given as gifts. If I lose interest in a fandom that I know I won't return to (like when I realized I had no interest in Doctor Who without my ex to make me watch it), I tend to give things away to people who I know will use them. My thrifted Jack Harkness coat made the convention rounds when I passed it on to a colleague-- she appreciated it more than I ever did.
At the moment, I'm making a tiny felt Kylo Ren with a tiny ridiculous lightsaber to wave around while I read Emo Kylo tweets in a silly voice. If making fun of Kylo Ren ever loses its charms, I will probably try to pass it on to anyone who'll appreciate it.
I've been having the worst time trying to find Finn and Rey merchandise in my area. All the local stores have been wiped clean, there's only generic stormtrooper and Kylo Ren merch left. :(
I *really* want to get the Stormtrooper Finn funko figure, but the closest store that has it in stock is almost 40 miles away, and I can't order it online. Woe is me.
i've dropped probably somewhere around $100 just on figures alone (i have pop toys of finn, rey, and poe, a die cast poe, and the disney infinity figure of poe). i'm trying to get die cast rey and finn too but rey is really hard to find and it KILLS ME.
i have a couple shirts too including the ONLY shirt i've seen that actually includes poe in full helmetless figure (he's wearing his jakku outfit and holding his blaster). it's modelled like a tour shirt and it has all the dates of every star wars movie released so far.
also lol the pop toy i got of poe is the helmetless variant because they actually went and rendered oscar isaac's glorious hair onto the figure, so. how could i not.
not the OP, but yeah, it is nice to now have the disposable income.
i was poor for the first 25 years of my life (coming from a refugee family, and my father and my brother died when we tried to left our country, and my mother was cleaning stuff here in our new country, whereas before she was a business woman, but war tend to destroy everything people have) so after all those years of learning and university degree stuff, getting into a job that pays ok, yup, i can tell you, its nice to not wear charity stuff, or eating bread and jam for lunch and dinner :D
ops, i just posted the same question today, coz i didnt see you already had it posted last month! i have just started to find this post this week, so i didnt have time during the week to read through all 3000 comments (doint it right now :))
didnt mean to step on your toes, or repeat the same question again to annoy anybody else. sorry to all!
