personally, I haven't seen anyone who wanted or genuinely thought Elan would be Hux's canon name--more like, people who thought/hoped his first name wouldn't be revealed in canon, so they would be free to imagine whatever they wanted. (seriously, what's with all the hate on CWU/CWU fans? I'm not a big fan of the series myself--it's too much of a time commitment to read an ongoing fic of that length--but, like, I don't feel the need to insult the people who really enjoy it.)

CWU , what does that stands for?

i like long fics, but no way i am torturing myself on a weekly basis :D

though i must admit, the summary in a way, that i dont want to look into, makes me feel a bit uncomfortabla, with the whole attempt to redeem hux?
i love him and kylux to bits, but honest serious attempt at redemption?? like would we write fics about redeeming hitler? stalin? mao? hux wasnt just some goon folliwing orders. and no amount of sobbing background story about being left behind or giving away by mommy, or abuse by daddy brendol is going to change that fact.

Yep the redemption part threw me for a loop. This is a damaged man, but a bad man too.

We analyze them, we write about them. But there is no real redemption. Mao had a sob backstory too. He was young and idealistic and wanted to saved his country and countrymen once too. But when he died he died a murdering monster.

Hitler was an aspiring artist who was rejected at the art school he wanted to go to, was physically abused by his father, was injured/potentially traumatised in the first world war. Still doesn't make him a fucking woobie.

me, i have always thought, death penalty would be too kind for those sort of people.
better keep them alive, and torture them indefinitly.

but that is sadly a very unpopular opinion, on both sides of the atlantic ocean, soooooo...

I love Hux-centric fics but I hate redeemed Hux so much.

I suspect that, as with all base-splitting fics, there is very strong characterisation. This characterisation will resonate with a bunch of people's fanon and also alienate a bunch of people's fanon. The only fics with interpretations that aren't controversial in some way are the ones with weak characterisation that any reader can squint at and go "yeah, that's pretty much how I see him/her/them/it". These are the fics that leave enough wiggle-room for the reader to see them through whatever interpretations they like. Again, nothing wrong with that kind of fic either, it's closer to the amount of info we get in canon.

I personally admire any fic that takes a strong stance on characters' interpretation though, even if I disagree with the characterisation (as I happen to with this series, but that's really beside the point). Regardless, it's a free fandom and I'd prefer to be part of the transformative side than the curative side any day.

Eh, I have my reasons for disliking the fic (I did write up the whole list of reasons somewhere around here) but I would be glad to ignore it because YKINMK and that's okay and all. However, there are a lot of very... vocal fans of that series who just won't shut up about how that fic is the be-all and end-all of Kylux fic and constantly assume everyone just HAS to love it. The kind who basically goes "This fic is flawless and perfect and that is a FACT and not an opinion".
I guess I was just unlucky with that part of the fandom I was in, but this is one of the main reasons I'm so salty about it.

i see your point, even though i am past being in any active fandom, so i wouldnt be particularly be annoyed by vocal fans.
I always thought of art (and that inclused stories, whether fics or stories where authors get paid) to be an subjective thing.
its like saying, hmm picasso doesnt do a thing to me. how someone is paying millions for his original paintings is beyons my grasps.

i am sure, the people in the middle ages believed in the fact that the sun was circling around earth, was a godgiven FACT too :D
well, lol, at least it fits kylux, we are shipping fanatics, so a little bit of fanaticsm probably isnt a surprise :D

Ooh, well if you ever have a link to the list could you share? Personally, I love both fics and am following the sequel but I have this terrible, terrible vice where I love reading reviews/opinions about why people dislike something. Um, well the thought out ones. Not the THIS SUCKS, FUCK THEM stuff.

I like to consider it juicy gossip to me. I have a hobby of reading movie critiques about why they dislike something. And I can totally see where they're coming from.
