What's your favourite crossovers?

I was in the shower when I realized that holy shit, a Harry Potter/Mary Poppins crossover would be AMAZING (Poppins in Azkaban for repeatedly violating the Statute of Secrecy!). But what other crossovers are out there that just "click" like that? Are there works that are improved if viewed as part of a particular universe? Would some miserable characters be a happier fit in another world? Could a happy story turn horribly dark with the inclusion of a single feature from another?

Probably!

So! Explaine to me your favourite crossovers!

Obi-Wan Kenobi used to be a heroin-using punk before Qui-Gon found him, cleaned him up, and got him into the Jedi Academy. (Trainspotting and Star Wars series. Not my idea, but Siubhan's "Sith Academy" completely changed how I look at "Star Wars.")

Okay, so obscure crossovers are obscure, but I read an amazing Dresden Files/Hellblazer crossover once. The author made the point that the Dresden and Constantine were practically each other in parallel universes and their team-up was epic.

Aside from that, almost every Sandman comic crossover I’ve read, which usually just involves the Endless turning up as character studies for the other canon’s characters have all been amazing.

Finally, the corporate Lex Luthor from Smallville and the unstable-scientist Lex Luthor from… eh… kind of bronze age comics or a couple of the cartoons… swap universes. Turns out they were both happier in the different ’verses and the story was almost sweet, despite being villain-centric.

So comics crossover, apparently. Huh. Turns out I have a type.

OP: Do you have a link or way to search for that Villianswap Lex Luthor fic? Because I would read the shit out of that.

I will read any version of "they have daemons" for any fandom I read, and some that I normally don't, because I love the daemon concept. Ironically, I didn't care for the His Dark Marterials verse, but I will happily thieve from it, or cheer on others doing so. Also anything + dragons, either Pern-style, Temeraire-style, or something else that hatches from an egg and imprints. I am Homestuck trash so I definitely have some Homestuck x TFA in progress. I love the "spark" concept in Girl Genius and want to see other verse's takes on mad engineering geniuses. Anakin would have loved being a Heterodyne. I have some Bordertown thoughts in progress because pretty much anything can cross with Bordertown, which is a shared verse whose very premise is basically "this is where all the odd ones out end up" and also magic and science regularly have fisticuffs and costumed dance parties. I would love to see Mary Poppins in the HP world, that sounds rad and also full of humorously related bureaucracy. I love this set of questions and will probably keep thinking about it as this is definitely not the definitive list of things I would read/write/muse.
