Just because I spent an hour looking for this thread, I'm putting in a subject so it's easier to find.

I'm new here and AO3 is failing me. I've heard there are a lot of fics where Kylo Ren is tortured, but I can't find them. Anyone know where they're hiding?

i've dropped probably somewhere around $100 just on figures alone (i have pop toys of finn, rey, and poe, a die cast poe, and the disney infinity figure of poe). i'm trying to get die cast rey and finn too but rey is really hard to find and it KILLS ME.

i have a couple shirts too including the ONLY shirt i've seen that actually includes poe in full helmetless figure (he's wearing his jakku outfit and holding his blaster). it's modelled like a tour shirt and it has all the dates of every star wars movie released so far.

also lol the pop toy i got of poe is the helmetless variant because they actually went and rendered oscar isaac's glorious hair onto the figure, so. how could i not.

i am nineteen years old. i am wretchedly attracted to oscar isaac. i would literally rip my pants off in milliseconds if he asked me to.

...yet i can't get behind poe and rey interacting in any sort of romantic format?

don't get me wrong, this isn't meant to be any form of ship hate, i just can't bring myself to enjoy jedistormpilot where everyone is romantically involved with everyone else (rey and poe merely sharing finn is a different story). i know rey is an adult but she's my exact age and it might have something to do with the fact that i am acutely aware that i probably am seen by older men as something to alleviate their insecurities about aging and i'm projecting those feelings onto her because i heavily relate to her (she's got my same hair and eye color so it's especially jarring). i don't know. my entire life is a paradox.

anyone wanna rap with me on this or am i just weirdly alone in this sort of feeling? i've never really had characters my age and gender expression to relate to like this before so it's a weird time.

Since we don't actually know much besides which cast members are returning, what would you like to see happen in episode 8?

Not a recreation of Empire. ESB is my favorite movie from the OT, but I don't want to see episode VIII parallel ESB the way TFA parallelled A New Hope. It worked for TFA, but doing the new trilogy like that would get old very fast.

Though, considering J.J. Abrams isn't involved with the script for Ep VIII, I think we're safe. I do worry, however, that they're going to try and recapture the "I love you/I know" moment in a new way, and I don't know how I feel about that.

Mostly, I would like to see Luke and Leia interact and Finn, Rey, and Poe have a mission or adventure together. And for backstory about Rey that doesn't make her a Skywalker or Solo. Even though I know it's probably going to happen, I'd still much rather see her actually be a nobody who has Jedi powers. I'm a fan of the theory that Luke trained her when she was little, but sent her away during/after Kylo's massacre.

I don't think there'll be a recreation/reimagining of the "I love you/I know" moment. (Which I would also hate them trying to do.) I mean, that whole "I ran right into you" speech that Finn gave Rey was written/acted/shot/scored in a way that's very easy to read as romantic, and Han and Leia were too busy bickering to have anything like a romantic speech until after their first kiss. So already the Finn/Rey relationship (which I assume is the most likely to be canon) reads completely differently to Han/Leia. And if they introduced any new romantic leads in the new film, I don't think they'd be able to capture the epic Han/Leia romance - that chemistry needs to start from the very first meeting in the very first movie for it to work.

Mm, I'm inclined to agree with that assessment tbh? And while I don't think it's something specific to SW:TFA fandom, I do think it's more pronounced here than in many fandoms I've been in. I've found myself getting bored with much of the fic I see on AO3 because it feels as though it all has the same plot -- which is actually something I've never felt that quickly in a fandom before, and I've been involved in fandom for over 15 years now! Personally, I find that a lot of SW:TFA fics don't take advantage of how BIG the Star Wars universe is. That doesn't mean 'you need to rely on the EU' -- almost 100% of my engagement with Star Wars is exclusively through the films. But it does feel as though there's this great expansive universe full of different star systems and races and missions and possibilities, but all I end up seeing are a billion Finn/Poe mutual pining fics set in the Resistance base. There's nothing wrong with that trope, especially if it's something people enjoy -- but I know that I would prefer more settings and contexts to keep things fresh and exciting. I know that there are a lot of dissimilarities between them, but I actually do think that SW:TFA fandom could take a page out of Star Trek AOS fandom. They're inherently structured differently, yes, but I would DEFINITELY be in favour of more mission fics, seeing people's made-up planets, etc.

NA: I have to keep reminding myself that as fun as shipping Stormpilot is, it will NEVER be canon and Rey/Finn will most likely be canon. (Nothing against that ship. I just find hetships tiresome)

More information on the new Trio's background. I know the rumors are that they planned to introduce more side characters and they are now cutting down their scenes to have more scenes with at least Finn and Rey, which I am glad for because we barely know anything about the new trio.

Also for them to reveal Finn has some form of force sensitivity. I'm still kind of annoying he was so heavily advertised as a Jedi stormtrooper and then did nothing with it.

I would add that criticism is good, but there is a line between helpful criticism and outright making fun of someone who probably didn't know better. And frankly I think the original comments got rude right away when they started to make fun of the story and author for using a simple food item, which was uncalled for.

Plus it is impossible to tell what words wouldn't or wouldn't exist in the universe. From the wiki page and what I watched of Clone Wars, they have wine and call it that. Rebels had "space pancakes" (which sound delicious). So who are we to say tatter tots are not a part of their language.

As someone new to the fandom I try to use the wiki page as much as I can. But I also get that someone writing a quick drabble that didn't reach 500 words isn't going to spent 3 hours searching around to see something so minor and silly. People need to remember there are people here who haven't had years/decades to learn all those small details. Educate us, but don't be rude about it. :)

I think you are hyperbolizing to an untenable degree here. It is not impossible to tell that current brand names would distract people from the story because it's so obviously not in line with the tone of the universe.
