You'd be a very inefficient genocidal maniac if so. Large numbers of English people are all over the world. For true genocide you'd need to destroy all the commonwealth countries as well, and Majorca and Tenerife to get the ones on holiday.

I really hope so, or I hope it will be easy enough to read that way. After getting burned on other series tie ins I don't trust comic artists to get the art for known characters horribly wrong.

I had been saving up a window with about 10 tabs of TFA longer fic that I was collecting to read over this weekend since I don't have to work, but I've lost it! Somewhere between yesterday morning and this morning, it got closed before Safari shut down (dumb Safari and it's complete lack of warnings when you try to shut a window with multiple tabs! It doesn't even have a way to turn that warning on!) and I've lost all the tabs! They were mostly on AO3 but they weren't even all recent posts, and I don't even recall vague titles or premises to go specifically searching.

Can anyone help me out? If you know of any complete TFA fic longer than 10k, Gen or Finn/Poe or Poe&Leia or Solo family or Kylo/Hux that has some strong plot or character development elements, could you drop a link here please?

Are you an AO3 member and have the History optioned turned on? It allows you to view every fic you opened and sorts them by the date you viewed them. You can also mark fics to read later. I discovered this option only a few days ago and it's perfect.

I second AO3's 'Mark for Later' feature. For fics that aren't on AO3, set up a folder in your bookmarks for fic? If that's possible?

I used to do that in other fandoms, but I'd never get back to reading anything. I've got over 3000 fics bookmarked in a 'to read' folder, in five different fandoms. I never remember to delete the bookmark if I do read it, because I usually end up reading things I've bookmarked when I see someone posting about them.

Except for the window not warning me and getting dismissed, the leaving tabs open has been more effective in actually getting around to reading things, and then I just bookmark the stuff I want to remember later.

I really should make use of AO3's features more, but I've got more than one ID there so I'm rarely logged in.

I'm ashamed to say that I'm just a real mess like Kylo Ren and that some of the ways he's portrayed in fic absolutely resonate with me. It often makes me laugh because yeah, I'm pretty terrible, ridiculous and pathetic myself. :|

I think I'm better at hiding my general messiness, however, so no dead fathers or broken consoles for me. Plus, I haven't worn all black since I was 18.

Since you're being pedantic, the term would be politicide, which is basically genocide with a different name.

I feel the same way. I've never quite understood people who say they don't like a book or movie if they can't identify personally with one of the characters.

Seconding the rec for coldhope's series. It's amazing.

This is why I tend to stay away from stories by authors I don't know that focus on someone being non-binary or trans or asexual, etc., because they're often handled so poorly and it becomes a multiple paragraph lecture about how to properly address someone and what the label really means.

It's possible to get those details in a fic without turning it into a heavy-handed lecture in the midst of a story.

It is a shame that Luke/Han interaction wasn't a part of TFA, their relationship has always been really strong. I hope they get into how Luke felt / feels regarding Han's death because I'm sure he must have felt it.

Lando definitely needs to appear! I'm going to be really upset if they don't eventually have Lando come back in some capacity, I want to know what he's been up to all these years.

Completely agree that the old school gang and the new school gang need to hang. They better give some Return of the Jedi-esque Ewok dance party once everything wraps up.

See, this is what I was looking for. It's similar...but also different in a lot of its connotations. It's not less bad, but it's very specific about the people targeted and the motives.

Galactic warfare brings us into new and interesting types of massive crimes and I want to respect that!!!

Or you could ferret out all of the English and just shovel them into concentration camps, which actual genocides do and which the First Order did not.

You know there's been more than one genocide right? And that each one was carried out in different ways? I mean just by looking at the top ones you can see that it has taken many forms, and there's a lot that aren't on this list.

Not every genocide has been based off of ideas of racial superiority. Most have just been the systematic elimination of a group of people considered 'the enemy.'

Also based on the way that Hux and the first order are stylized I definetly think that we are supposed to be getting genocide from their actions.

People keep trying to distance him from the real human tragedies his actions are created to parallel by looking for alternative terms that don't carry such a weighty history. But I personally don't see the point. It's like calling deaths 'casualties' you can use less weighted words, the people are still dead though.

To be fair, political massacre was originally considered genocide. The term genocide didn't come into origin until WWII and political killings were considered genocide. But then when Russia decided to move over to the Allies' side, political massacre was removed from the definition of genocide because the Allies were worried that blaming the Russians for the political genocides they committed during the war would cause the Russians to betray them or start another war.

Modern day usage of genocide has evolved to the point that political massacre is considered genocide. So, yes, what Hux did was genocide.

Genocide isn't only racial superiority. It deals with social class, religion, and political affiliation. Mass murdering groups that oppose your political party is still genocide.
