[Fill] Kylo/Mitaka (PART 2)
(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 12:13 am (UTC)(link)“What have you done to Lord Ren?” asked Thanisson, staring as the Knight swept away after actually stopping to greet Mitaka.
“I don’t understand myself,” sighed the Lieutenant in question.
“Is this something to do with when he took you out of the mess hall?” Mitaka nodded, looking absolutely retched. Thanisson usually hated that he never seemed to have grown to look any older than twelve, but it was times like this he was grateful for it. Lord Ren left him alone at least. “What exactly happened?”
“He gave me his grandmother’s ash-diamond then started saying he loved me.”
“He-wha-hasn’t he choked you like six times?”
“Actually only twice, but it sticks with you.” Thanisson’s hand reached up protectively towards his own throat without thinking, and nodded his understanding. They were taught how to get out of actual chokeholds at the Academy, but one from the Force? The thought of receiving one of those was frightening and Thanisson was glad again he still hadn’t managed to get his adult face yet.
“So now he’s trying to woo you?”
“I think? I told him I’d think about it.”
“I’d say turn him down but you might get chopped up like those consoles.”
“Thank you, Thanisson.” Mitaka did look absolutely miserable, and Thanisson clapped him on the shoulder and said,
“Best of luck, Mitaka.” Thanisson wasn’t a gossipmonger, and Mitaka had to take a small amount of comfort in that.
Dopheld shared his room with three other Lieutenants, and there was a general understanding that none of them messed with each other’s belongings. A holo of someone’s mother certainly wasn’t going to be messed with and uniforms were so desperately important that no one was going to touch those. It was nice, having that agreement, because no matter if they liked each other or not (and so few people actually did like him) it was somewhere safe.
And Dopheld found that safe space suddenly violated when he returned to his bunk at the end of the day to find two of the other Lieutenants holding Senator Padme Amidala of Naboo’s ash-diamond. No matter where he got it from, that was his and to have it suddenly taken made helpless frustration bubble up in him with a vengeance.
“Put that down!” he snapped, drawing their attention.
“You know we aren’t allowed luxuries like this, Mitaka,” said one of them, Phineas Magellan. “We should report you for this.”
“It was a gift, give that back!”
“A gift? From who?” asked the other, Stanislas Bourbon.
“It doesn’t matter, it’s none of your business! That is a woman’s ash-diamond, you need to treat it with respect!” They were supposed to be past this, thought Mitaka helplessly. They were supposed to be mature adults by now, not taking each other’s belongings and taunting each other. He thought he left that behind at the Academy.
“Who gave you an ash-diamond as a gift?” laughed Magellan. Dopheld didn’t know how to say anything without telling them it came from Lord Ren, and he didn’t want that out. He felt his face color and his fists balled in directionless anger, but then the two froze entirely, and couldn’t seem to move. There was distress in their eyes at that, and Dopheld didn’t understand what was going on.
Behind him the door opened and he whirled around, ready to defend that he had no idea what was going on, and saw none but Kylo Ren there. “Are you alright?” he asked. Dopheld merely nodded vaguely, unsure what else to do. The Knight turned his attention to the other two Lieutenants and saw what they held. Staring them down he said, “You will lay the pendant on Dopheld’s bed and you will go to sleep immediately afterwards. You will not remember what has happened.”
Immediately Magellan placed the pendant on the bed as Bourbon climbed into his bed, Magellan close behind. Soon as they lay down they fell asleep immediately, Magellan’s snorting snores filling the room. “I…thank you,” said Dopheld. “How did you manage that? Sir?”
“Please don’t call me sir,” said Ren, removing the helmet to reveal his face. Still as jarringly young and handsome as it had been last time. “It’s a Force trick. They’ll not remember a thing.”
“And how did you know to…” he couldn’t bring himself to finish it. How did you know to come rescue me like I was some damsel in a children’s story?
“You’re not a damsel,” said Ren. “You’re incredibly brave and you practice more restraint than those two obviously do. It’s an admirable quality, not sinking to their level. I could feel your anger and frustration.”
“You could feel it?”
“Of course. I keep you in my mind just as much as any of my Knights. You are very dear to me, Dopheld, I thought you knew that. I know this is probably not the best time, but I couldn’t find you alone before, but have you thought of what I told you?”
Beyond that Thanisson said that if I turned you down I’d be slashed up like a console? Beyond that I’ve been choked by you before and I’m terrified you’ll do it to me again and actually kill me if I ever do anything to displease you? thought Dopheld wildly, not thinking about how Ren had already answered to his thoughts before.
To his surprise, Ren actually looked something near ashamed at the thoughts and said, “Dopheld, I wouldn’t hurt you. I may have in the past, yes, but I would never from here on. If you were ever in danger from me, my Knights would protect you. Mandryka already loves you for my sake, and Lamoral besides. Zdenka is already…invested, and Jenkel and Welko want nothing more than to meet you. Djura, not so much, she always thought matters of the heart a waste of time in the face of the Order’s pursuits and the Knights’ pursuit of Skywalker, but even she’s said she’s curious about you.”
Dopheld felt vaguely ill. All the Knights of Ren so interested in him? Their master in love with him? What could he say?
“This was a bad time. I hope you can find it in you to forgive me,” said Ren. His hand reached up to brush fondly against Dopheld’s jaw as he spoke. “Goodnight. Sleep well, those two won’t bother you again tonight.”
With a smile, Ren replaced his helmet and Dopheld left alone, stunned and without words.
Master, you’re clogging up the Force.
My apologies, Djura.
Please just resolve this business with your man, if I have to spend one more dream focused on this man I am going to scream.
He’s thinking about what I’ve told him, it’s going to take him time.
You seem incredibly certain he’ll accept.
I’m hopeful he’ll accept.
Best of luck, master. But speed it up, please.
“I’m away to the Apse Nebula,” said Kylo the next time he managed to find Dopheld alone. “The Supreme Leader is sending me there. There’s a small planet there, I can’t tell you any more, though. But I couldn’t leave without seeing you.”
“When do you leave?” asked Dopheld.
“Almost at once. I will ask only one thing of you. Will you consider my offer while I’m gone?” Dopheld nodded, and behind his mask, Kylo grinned. His hand reached up to run fondly along his Lieutenant’s jaw, soaking in all he could of the man he loved before bowing elegantly to him, bidding him farewell with the gesture before going to his shuttle.
There was no time to think of anything else but the mission, but he liked to entertain the idea of what he could bring his Lieutenant.
Master, you can’t bottle stardust.
Thank you Welko, I had no idea.
I only mean that you can’t possibly bring anything from the Apse Nebula.
An absolute goldmine of wisdom, Welko, where did Master Snoke find you?
A boring farming planet, that’s where. And I don’t appreciate the sarcasm, you’re the one thinking about what you can bring your Lieutenant.
I don’t actually plan on bringing Dopheld anything, I will be a bit busy otherwise to think much of it. But thank you for trying to help.
Whenever Kylo Ren was gone, the entire ship functioned better and everyone just usually felt better. Dopheld was usually first and foremost in that. But this time, he sat cross-legged on his bunk while the other three slept around him, and stared at the ash-diamond.
Kylo Ren, the Supreme Leader’s own apprentice and grandson to Darth Vader had given him this to declare his love. His love! This wasn’t something he could just ignore and hope it went away. One couldn’t ignore Kylo Ren. He kind of made that impossible. Lord Ren had declared his love and then given him his grandmother’s ash-diamond.
In a morbid way, that was almost romantic. Thinking of Lord Ren as romantic, though, was so incredibly wrong on a visceral level that he couldn’t help the instinctual shudder that passed through him.
To accept Lord Ren’s love was to entangle himself in the business of the Force. To certainly bring the attention of the Knights of Ren unto himself and possibly even that of the Supreme Leader himself. But to deny Lord Ren’s love was to hang a target on his back that loudly announced itself to certainly the Knights of Ren and possibly even the Supreme Leader himself. Neither option seemed attractive.
But Lord Ren had promised to give him the stars, to protect him when he couldn’t protect himself, had promised that the Knights would be his protectors as well. Lord Ren believed Dopheld brave and strong and decent and above nearly everyone else on the ship. Better than Bourbon who people liked and better than Magellan who was considered a genius. Mitaka wasn’t liked by anyone, Thanisson was the closest he had to a friend and even that was mostly just a passing acquaintance. He was very good at his job, his commission on the Finalizer proved that, but that didn’t match with anything Lord Ren had told him.
He had to admit, even as unnerved as he was by the man, having such a positive regard was rather nice.
There was no answer to be had, not tonight, and Dopheld sighed, simply laying down to sleep. Morning would come too soon otherwise. When he drifted off, he found himself in an oddly lucid dream. He hated lucid dreams, and nearly made himself wake up, but for that he was drifting in space and looking at nebula. It was like a dome over him, glowing purple and blue with bright spots of giant stars within it. He had never seen anything like it, and found himself as usual unable to simply admire it as if it were art and instead began to analyze it.
He identified what gases must be in it to create that color, and was just starting to measure it when a voice told him, “The Apse nebula is three lightyears across.” He startled and turned to see Lord Ren there, without mask and just as unbothered by floating in the vacuum of space. “Do you see that blue giant? There’s a planet in orbit there, that’s where I am.”
“Are you sending me this dream?”
“Yes. I can’t bring you with me and I can’t bring anything back, but I can give you this, let you see it. Did you know of this nebula?”
“Passing familiar, I studied it in the Academy once. But that was just data, I never got to see it. It’s a star nursery, I thought.”
“And it is. The planet I’m on is nothing more than a rock. No atmosphere, no life. I can’t leave my ship without a respirator. You said you studied this nebula. What else did you study? You’re navigations, I thought.”
Maybe because it was a dream, but Mitaka felt more at ease than he had in a long time as he said, “I am, yes, but that means we need to know galactic geography. Nebulas are important for that.” And before he knew it, floating in the void of space with Kylo Ren, Mitaka was talking excitedly about his old studies. He liked his job, but he had been incredibly happy being a student. Dealing with the other cadets, not so much. But the intellectual, yes. Ren even seemed interested, his head cocked slightly and a smile on his face.
“How has anyone ever overlooked you?” Ren finally said, voice soft. Mitaka blushed heavily at that, suddenly aware that he had just started ranting about geography and how one of his teachers had spent at least an hour telling about the danger of the Ellian Supervoid. “I mean it. You’re brave, upright, and so blindingly smart…”
“It’s just Academy courses,” he muttered.
“It’s more than I had. I left regular schooling when I was ten to study the Force exclusively, and you don’t learn these things there. Compared to me, you’re a genius. I still spell things wrong. If it weren’t for datapads correcting mistakes, I’d be the laughingstock of the order. Especially ‘necessary.’ I can never get that one right.”
“It’s necessary to have one collar and two sleeves,” said Mitaka helpfully. “That’s how I remembered it when I was younger. One C and two S’s.” And then the blush got worse, embarrassment coursing through him for teaching Lord Ren spelling tricks.
But Lord Ren was smiling at him and saying with all honest intents, “Thank you, Dopheld. I should let you sleep, I know that. But I wanted to give this to you. I’m to return in four days, I won’t bother you until then, I promise.” And with that, the lucidity vanished, leaving Dopheld to his usual dreams.
Re: [Fill] Kylo/Mitaka (PART 2)
(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:52 am (UTC)(link)I love that Mitaka's still hesitant about the whole thing - it's a completely understandable reaction, especially since Kylo and the other Knights are pretty much wildcards (and then there's Snoke oh god). I also really like that Kylo keeps tabs on Mitaka without interfering, apologizes for his previous behavior, allows Mitaka the time to process things, and is just so utterly charmed by Mitaka, what an adorable nerd. Also fucking hell I love your take on the Knights, what a bunch of snarky asshole dorks.
And that last bit just made me wibble, oh boys, bonding via lucid dreams. Poor Mitaka. Poor Kylo. I just want to gather them up and hug them and feed them cupcakes.
*HUGS* Thank you so much for continuing with this, author anon, it's just so lovely and wonderful. Really looking forward to what's next!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)I'm glad that Mitaka is taking the time to consider the options. I can completely understand his apprehension. Also the dream bonding was very cute. Is it wrong that Kylo confessing he can't spell well made me feel a bit sad for him? There must be so much that he missed due to force training at such a young age. Well, I guess if Mitaka says yes, he can help him with any learning he might want to do.
I'm so eager for the last part; thank you for filling this so majestically.
