Re: FILL: Kylo/Phasma, working out (Part 5/5)
(Anonymous) 2016-02-19 03:15 am (UTC)(link)Phasma, as she's coalesced in my mind, is unflappable and chill and I love her. I hope she's not the only person Kylo can properly talk to, but part of what made this so fun to write is how casually respectful she is of him. Phasma doesn't know why Kylo is the way he is - prickly, standoffish, etc. - but she takes it for granted that he has good reasons to be. Which really helps, because she doesn't take his rudeness personally, and her response de-escalates his freakouts. He doesn't have to yell or rage to make her take him seriously. She just does. And (apart from the fact that she's been a bigshot most of the time that he's known her) she belongs to a different hierarchy than he does, so she went out of her way to create camaraderie specifically because she can see how dedicated he is to Snoke and the First Order.
I'm really glad you liked the part at the end so much, because I second-guessed myself a lot as I was structuring it. (Is it believable that he would ask her something that important? And that she would answer candidly, as opposed to worrying that this might be some sort of test of loyalty?) But then I realized ... this Phasma has a clear conscience. She really believes in what they're doing. So she's not afraid to think things through or speak freely because, to her, things going to hell is a logical consequence of the FO losing.
